Bolt, Europe’s leading mobility platform, has introduced a major breakthrough in Malaysia’s ride-hailing landscape by fully integrating toll fares into its fare calculation system. With this update, Bolt becomes the first platform in the country to automate toll fare inclusion in every ride, delivering greater transparency, efficiency, and simplicity for both riders and partner drivers.
Traditionally, toll charges in ride-hailing services were calculated separately or added after the trip, often leading to confusion and manual reconciliation between passengers and drivers. With nearly 200 tolls operating across the country spanning open, closed, and hybrid systems managing toll payments has long been a challenge. Currently, around 30% of Bolt rides in Malaysia involve at least one toll, making this new feature highly relevant and impactful.
Now, riders will see the full fare, including any applicable tolls, clearly displayed upfront before confirming their trip. This allows for greater pricing clarity, improved trust, and a smoother overall experience. For partner drivers, toll charges are automatically calculated and factored into the total fare, eliminating manual tracking and freeing them to focus on providing excellent service and earning more efficiently.
Afzan Lutfi, General Manager of Bolt Malaysia, said, “By integrating toll fares directly into our ride calculations, we’re addressing a daily challenge for drivers and riders in Malaysia. Tolls are an unavoidable part of our road network, and automating this process removes the guesswork for everyone. Transparency is key to a better experience, and this feature is just one part of our broader commitment to creating a fair, reliable, and convenient urban mobility ecosystem.”
Partner drivers are already seeing the benefits on the ground. “Before this, tracking tolls during busy hours was tricky. Now everything is upfront it saves time and avoids misunderstandings with riders,” shared Rahimah Ismail, a Bolt partner driver from the Klang Valley.

At a recent engagement session held during Bolt’s Raya Open House, the company also announced several upcoming enhancements including better pickup distance management and improved access to driver earnings. These new features, driven by direct driver feedback, are designed to boost platform efficiency and empower partner drivers with greater control and flexibility.
Innovations like toll integration reflect Bolt’s wider mission to create cities built for people, not just cars reducing everyday barriers in urban transportation and helping communities move more efficiently. Through continuous innovation and a people-first approach, Bolt continues to reshape the ride-hailing experience in Malaysia.
By delivering greater transparency, operational simplicity, and more meaningful earning opportunities, Bolt sets a new benchmark for what Malaysians can expect from modern mobility.
