Anugerah HONOR Talents Global Design 2024: Hadiah Bernilai Lebih RM621,000 dan Peluang Pameran Antarabangsa untuk Pemenang

Anugerah HONOR Talents Global Design 2024 kini dibuka dengan tujuan menggalakkan bakat-bakat muda yang kreatif menerokai potensi gabungan teknologi dan seni yang tiada tandingan. Dengan tema ‘Inspire the Future’, HONOR Malaysia mengajak pelajar universiti dan kolej tempatan untuk menyertai pertandingan berprestij ini. Peserta boleh menghantar kerja seni mereka mereka ke laman sesawang rasmi HONOR Talents Global Design Awards selewat-lewatnya pada 30 September 2024 dan berpeluang memenangi hadiah wang tunai berjumlah lebih RM547,000. Pemenang akan dipilih oleh barisan panel hakim yang terdiri daripada jurugambar terkemuka dan profesional industri. Kumpulan Magic Lock Screen dan Standby menumpukan kepada ciri-ciri terbaharu dalam sistem pengoperasian terkini HONOR, MagicOS 8.0. Ini membolehkan pelajar menyerlahkan kreativiti mereka sepenuhnya, seterusnya menyampaikan pengalaman pintar dengan visual yang lebih canggih kepada pengguna.

Kerja seni pelajar Malaysia dipamerkan di ibu pejabat PBB di New York

Pertandingan pada 2023 telah menyaksikan enam kerja seni dari Malaysia menerima enam anugerah antarabangsa. Dua daripada pemenang tersebut adalah dari UiTM, dan UTAR turut menyertai kerja seni bertemakan naga yang telah dipamerkan di ibu pejabat Pertubuhan Banga-bangsa Bersatu (PBB) di New York, awal tahun ini.

Sejak dilancarkan pada 2020, Anugerah HONOR Talents Global Design telah mendapat pengiktirafan meluas sebagai salah satu inisiatif yang dihormati. Dalam tempoh lebih empat tahun, HONOR telah menerima lebih 25,000 penyertaan daripada lebih 40 pasaran dan 240 universiti di seluruh dunia, dengan separuh daripada peserta terdiri daripada pelajar universiti, menjadikannya sebagai pentas dunia untuk bakat muda mempersembahkan keupayaan mereka.

Memasuki tahun kelima, anugerah ini terus meraih pengiktirafan sebagai platform global terkemuka bagi penumpuan terhadap seni dan teknologi. Note Assist on Samsung Notes offers translation, summaries, and auto formatting for simple and easy meeting notes. Plus, a newly embedded transcript feature enables transcription, translation and summarizing of voice recordings directly in Notes. Texts in PDF files can be translated and overlaid perfectly through PDF overlay translation feature in Notes – and it even supports text in images and graphs. A newly added Composer from Samsung Keyboard generates suggested text based on simple keywords for email and supported social media apps. For social media in particular, the Composer creates text that reflects your tone by analyzing previous posts. Additionally, the S Penexperience is expanded further meeting with Galaxy AI on the Galaxy Z Fold6’s screen. All-new Sketch to image allows you to create more sophisticated art pieces by generating image options when you simply sketch or draw on the photos in Gallery or Note screen.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 enables you to evolve the way you work, play, and stay informed thanks to Samsung’s longstanding partnership with Google. The latest Google Gemini app is fully integrated on the new Galaxy Z series, providing your own AI-powered assistant right on your phone. By simply swiping the corner of the screen or saying, “Hey Google”, you can bring up Gemini’s overlay and get help with writing, learning, or planning. Gemini is integrated with some of your favorite Google apps, making it easy to organize a perfect travel itinerary by getting real-time flight and hotel booking information – and explore famous landmarks and the best routes to get there using Google Maps. When you want detailed information about a K-pop music video while watching YouTube on Galaxy Z Fold6’s large screen, you can access Gemini overlay in the multi-window split screen to ask questions. If you’re curious about who the artist is in the video, just long press the home button and circle, highlight, or tap on screen – and Circle to Search will offer instant search results.

Galaxy AI has also enhanced barrier-free communication on Galaxy Z Fold6. Maximizing its unique dual screen form factor, Interpreter comes with a new conversation mode that enables both parties to conveniently view translations on the main and cover screens for more natural interactions. It also offers one-way translation, so you can easily understand when listening during lectures or any other type of presentation. Live Translate, which translates phone calls directly on your device in real-time, is also now being extended beyond Samsung’s own native calling app to a selection of popular third-party apps.

From capturing to editing to viewing, AI-powered ProVisual Engine on the Galaxy Z Fold6 takes your creativity to the next level. The advanced editing experience with Photo Assist on the large screen helps to effortlessly create professional-grade content. Portrait Studio creates a variety of different portrait styles such as 3D cartoon or watercolor for more creative possibilities. And if you want to enjoy every second with a more detailed view, Instant Slow-mo allows you to instantly slow a video by generating additional frames while maintaining a smooth viewing experience. You also have the option of saving or directly sharing your videos with friends and family so they can enjoy them as well.

The 3.4-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow has been enhanced yet again, enabling AI-assisted functions without even needing to open the device. And for those communications on-the-go, you can reply to texts with Suggested replies which analyzes your latest messages to suggest a tailored response. Galaxy AI Captivates Southeast Asia and Oceania: Four out of Five of Non-Samsung Users Considering Galaxy Smartphones for Next Upgrade
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd today released findings from Samsung’s Consumer Marketing Insights Study on AI Perception, which showed high awareness for Galaxy AI across the Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) region, both for non-Samsung users and Samsung Galaxy users alike. Survey findings reveal that SEAO consumers recognize the potential of AI, which is driving interest for four in five non-Samsung users to upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone to try the latest Galaxy AI features. Among Samsung Galaxy users in SEAO, about two-thirds are using Galaxy AI, with the top-used features being Circle to Search, Chat Assist and Generative Edit.

Since the release of the Galaxy S24 series, which has introduced a new era of mobile AI experiences, Samsung has also enabled users to experience Galaxy AI on more devices through the One UI 6.1 update. As a global leader in technology innovation, Samsung is committed to enhancing consumer experiences through AI-powered solutions, and the growing popularity of Galaxy AI features reflects this dedication to user-centric design.

Galaxy AI enhances efficiency and productivity for users

In SEAO, AI is used most to speed up information retrieval and to enhance photo-editing capabilities. This ties in with how consumers are optimistic of the benefits of AI in enhancing efficiency and productivity, while also boosting their confidence and sense of empowerment. Likewise, Samsung Galaxy users in SEAO also expressed satisfaction with Galaxy AI capabilities that focused on efficiency and productivity, with the top three as follows:
- Circle to Search (92%): AI helps consumers find information faster by streamlining social media and internet interactions with a simple and intuitive gesture.
- Transcript Assist (90%): This feature enables users to easily transcribe meeting recordings and generate summaries and translations.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner, has recently revealed a captivating art campaign created by the renowned French photographer Raymond Depardon and his son, director and photographer Simon Depardon. The campaign, named “Olympic Games Instants Shared #withGalaxy,” is currently active throughout Paris, showcasing captivating imagery that provides a fresh outlook on the impact of sports. As the countdown to Paris 2024 continues, Samsung is actively contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the host city.

Raymond Depardon, a renowned photographer and filmmaker, has skillfully captured timeless images that have become iconic. His portfolio includes captivating portraits of athletes during the Olympic competitions from 1964 to 1980. The new campaign, created through a partnership between Samsung and the City of Paris, celebrates the influential work of Raymond. In 2020, the successor to the pioneering Galaxy Fold was released. The Galaxy Z Fold2 took foldables to the next level with an all-new sophisticated and refined design. The most notable of its several innovative features was the Hideaway Hinge, which seamlessly connected the body of the smartphone while supporting stable folding and unfolding. Users could mount the Galaxy Z Fold2 at various angles with the Hideaway Hinge to easily take selfies and make video calls in Flex Mode.

The Hideaway Hinge’s more than sixty parts made the innovative dual CAM mechanism a reality. The flat surface between two ridge-shaped parts, CAM helped keep the device open or closed and enabled Flex Mode. By increasing the number of CAM structures and springs, the hinge could reliably support wider angles. The Hideaway Hinge was mounted on an optimal location on the Galaxy Z Fold2 for an even slimmer design and a maximum folded thickness of just 16.8 millimeters.

Since the hinge was constantly folded when the device was opened or closed, there was an inevitable gap between the front of the device and the hinge housing. To effectively minimize this gap, Samsung needed to develop a component that would be long-lasting and elastic without adding extra bulk. Inspired by the brush of a vacuum cleaner, Samsung made use of delicately cut optical fibers to address this issue: Sweeper Technology. Sweeper Technology protected the phone’s display from external dust and debris that could enter through the gap, providing a more fluid foldable device experience.

The Solution to the Foldable Phone’s Biggest Challenge: Waterproofing

It’s a given that today’s smartphones are waterproof. However, the hinge that opened and closed the screen on foldables would always be exposed to the elements. If liquids such as beverages or even rainwater leaked inside, the device would be at risk of immediate malfunction.

The Galaxy Z Fold3 was the first foldable to be water resistant, one of the biggest challenges that previous foldable devices faced. Samsung’s waterproofing technology was applied to two areas — the outer part of the display and the hinge. The outer part of the display was surrounded by a rubber band that prevented dust and liquid from entering, whereas the metal parts of the hinge were made of corrosion-resistant materials and coated with a long-lasting lubricant. The terminal connecting the two mainboards bordering the hinge was sealed with a silicone-based cured-in-place gasket (CIPG) that prevented liquid from entering the device. Additionally, flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) cables were used to protect sensitive components.

A robust material that withstands external shocks and reduces the risk of deformities or scratches, Armor Aluminum was used to help the Galaxy Z Fold3 achieve an even thinner and lighter form factor.

Armor Aluminum was applied to the two edges that make up the exterior and to the housing that surrounds the hinge. Various components were densely packed inside the Galaxy Z Fold3’s Hideaway Hinge to enable Flex Mode and ensure smooth opening and closing. To support these functions, the hinge housing needed to be made from sturdy materials.

The Sweeper Technology that closed the gap between the hinge and the body of the foldable evolved too. As the device became slimmer, the sweeper’s bristles were shortened to improve aesthetics while still keeping the hinge safe from dust and external particles. These innovations allowed the Galaxy Z Fold3 to be as thin as 16.0 millimeters when folded.

From Rotating to Linear: A Slimmer, Lighter Hinge

Unveiled in 2022, the Galaxy Z Fold4 saw a significant reduction in weight and thickness. At 263 grams, the device weighed nearly 20 grams less than the Galaxy Z Fold2 at 282 grams. The maximum folded thickness was 15.8 millimeters, making this foldable the thinnest in the series at the time. Once again, Samsung loaded its signature foldable with innovation — resulting in an easy-to-grip, thin and lightweight body.

Redesigned to be 21% lighter than its predecessor, the new hinge of the Galaxy Z Fold4 accommodated the wider width and shorter length of the Cover Screen. While the previous foldable in the series used interlocking gears to ensure even screen folding and unfolding, the Galaxy Z Fold4 changed the hinge motion from rotary to linear. This adjustment drastically reduced weight, thickness and the number of parts, which streamlined manufacturing and improved the device’s resilience. With the Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung built its slimmest, lightest hinge at the time while upholding the same level of durability as the previous form factor.

Flex Hinge: The Secret to a Fully Foldable Phone

In 2023, the Galaxy Z Fold5 introduced the world to the next generation of foldable smartphones. Moving away from the traditional Hideaway Hinge, Samsung unveiled a new type of mechanism called the Flex Hinge — demonstrating a leap forward in foldable innovation. With improved flexibility and a wide range of features, the Flex Hinge made it possible for the display to curl into the hinge like a water droplet using four drive shafts and a dual rail structure that allowed parts to glide along it. Thanks to this hinge technology, the two screens could be evenly folded without any creases or gaps.

This new folding mechanism resulted in the lightest and thinnest Galaxy Z Fold series device yet. More than two millimeters thinner than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold5’s maximum thickness is 13.4 millimeters when folded. The foldable also weighs 253 grams — 10 grams lighter than its predecessor — making it more compact, portable and stable when folded. The phone’s sleek, solid shape could be appreciated from any angle.

Each year, Samsung refines the Galaxy Z Fold series by leveraging precise engineering and meticulous manufacturing processes. Every detail is studied carefully, from internal mechanisms to exterior design. Reimagining the hinges and device thickness — core attributes of the foldable — has enhanced the utility of the Galaxy Z Fold series immensely. Samsung will continue to build on its legacy of unprecedented foldables, ensuring that more people can utilize them for an even more convenient life.
