Sony Debuts ECM-778 Shotgun Mic and Ultra-Fast CFexpress 4.0 Media for Pro Creators

Sony today announced two powerful additions to its professional production lineup: the ECM-778 shotgun microphone, a high-resolution mono microphone designed for film, TV, and documentary production, and new CFexpress Type A memory cards and reader compatible with the CFexpress 4.0 standard.

The ECM-778 delivers precise, high-fidelity audio in a compact 176 mm, 102 g design. It features a newly developed microphone capsule, brass acoustic tube, and purpose-built circuitry to ensure clarity across high and mid-low frequencies. With sharp forward directivity and reduced side and rear pickup, it excels in complex recording environments and tight spaces. The microphone supports versatile mounting options, including boom poles and on-camera setups, and works seamlessly with XLR-compatible devices such as Sony’s Cinema Line and Alpha cameras.

Designed in collaboration with sound engineers from the film industry, the ECM-778 prioritizes both sound quality and real-world usability. Renowned sound engineer Kenichi Fujimoto praised it as the new standard for cinematic audio, citing its exceptional clarity, weight balance, and tonal character.

Sony is also introducing the CEA-G1920T (1920 GB) and CEA-G960T (960 GB) CFexpress Type A memory cards, along with the MRW-G3 card reader. These new products support CFexpress 4.0 and deliver read speeds up to 1800 MB/s and write speeds up to 1700 MB/s, significantly improving workflow efficiency for professional creators. Both cards support the VPG400 standard for stable video recording and are built to Sony’s TOUGH specification, offering high resistance to drops, bending, dust, water, and extreme temperatures.

The MRW-G3 reader is optimized for fast data transfers with CFexpress 4.0 and USB 40 Gbps support, allowing quick import to computers, tablets, and smartphones. Its heat-dissipating design ensures reliability during large file transfers.

The ECM-778 shotgun microphone will be available in Malaysia starting August 2025. The CFexpress Type A memory cards and MRW-G3 reader will also be available in Malaysia from August 2025.

Sony remains committed to supporting professional and high-end amateur creators with advanced tools that enhance both creative expression and operational efficiency across diverse production environments.
