Kuala Lumpur teenager Max Tang is making waves across the globe. The 16 years old open water swimming champion is officially set to represent Malaysia at the prestigious OCEANMAN World Finals Championships 2026 in Miches, Dominican Republic, this November.
To honor his phenomenal accomplishments, Max has been granted the prestigious responsibility of serving as Malaysia’s flag bearer, carrying the Jalur Gemilang onto the international stage.
Max’s journey to the World Finals began with an unforgettable triumph at OCEANMAN Kota Kinabalu, where he secured first place in the 2km Sprint and 5km Half Oceanman. In an extraordinary feat of endurance, the young athlete outperformed all age groups including experienced adults to claim overall victory. His remarkable momentum also carried him to the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 and the SEA Age Group Swimming Championships longlist.

Off the water, Max is a dedicated student at Garden International School, currently tackling 10 IGCSE subjects with stellar early results. Balancing early morning swim training with intensive study sessions requires immense sacrifice, but Max’s dedication remains unwavering.
As he prepares to face the world’s best junior swimmers in the Dominican Republic, the capital city and the entire nation rally behind him. Max Tang is ready to make history and do Malaysia proud.
