  • Formnext Asia Shenzhen Sparks Stronger AM Ecosystem in Greater Bay

Formnext Asia Shenzhen Sparks Stronger AM Ecosystem in Greater Bay

At a press conference held today, the organiser of Formnext Asia Shenzhen announced a renewed strategic direction for the 2025 edition of the trade fair. With a focus on delivering deeper value to the fast-evolving additive manufacturing (AM) market in China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA), the organiser unveiled plans to sharpen the fair’s focus across the AM value chain spanning equipment, materials, software, and post-processing technologies. This move aligns the Shenzhen event more closely with the global Formnext brand and aims to meet the demands of a rapidly maturing, high-tech industrial ecosystem. Supporting this strategy will be a series of newly introduced partner-led pavilions and fringe programmes, co-developed with key industry stakeholders.

Speakers at the event highlighted the remarkable trajectory of China’s AM industry, which is expected to exceed RMB 63 billion (USD 8.8 billion) in value by 2025. Mr Edmond Lai, Chief Digital Officer of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and CEO of its Mainland Business, underscored the sector’s immense potential, noting a thirty-fold growth over the past decade. As the event’s newly appointed technical partner, HKPC will present highlights from the “HKPC-HP 3D Printing Technology Centre” Asia’s first facility equipped with HP’s metal and polymer platforms for research-grade applications. Their dedicated pavilion will showcase advanced materials developed for both traditional and emerging sectors, while offering businesses in the GBA access to next-generation innovation.

HKPC will also participate in the upcoming “China Additive Manufacturing Go-Global Special Seminar,” where it will introduce “The Cradle – Go Global Service Centre.” This one-stop support hub provides services that include international standards alignment, product localisation, IP protection, and overseas regulatory compliance empowering GBA enterprises to expand confidently into global markets. Mr Lai remarked that with nearly three decades of experience in AM research and development, HKPC possesses full-chain capabilities to help transition technologies from lab-scale prototypes to commercially viable solutions.

The province of Guangdong, home to nine of the GBA’s mainland municipalities, continues to play a central role in advancing China’s AM sector. Its network of approximately 400 enterprises, collectively valued at RMB 13 billion (USD 1.8 billion) in 2024, spans a complete value chain with distinct industrial specialisations: Guangzhou excels in R&D and incubation, Shenzhen in equipment and services, Dongguan and Foshan in large-scale manufacturing, and Zhongshan in medical customisation.

Mr Liu Yihua, Chairman of the Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society, attributed this success to targeted public-private collaboration, including active university-industry integration and policy support through initiatives such as the “Laser and Additive Manufacturing Industry Cluster Action Plan.” In line with this agenda, the Society will co-organise the second edition of the Laser and Additive Manufacturing Forum at the fair, working closely with the Additive Manufacturing Branch and Messe Frankfurt’s local office in Guangzhou. The forum will feature 18 presentations on laser-based AM applications, intellectual property strategies, market development, and international regulatory topics.

Complementing these efforts, the fringe programme will deliver sector-specific content for key GBA industries such as new energy vehicles, 3C electronics, mould making, footwear, and 3D print farms. Hong Kong’s strategic role as the GBA’s international trade and service hub will also be emphasised, with a strong presence from companies specialising in precision engineering, material science, and digital production.

The Hong Kong 3D Printing Association, drawing from its 500-member network, will host a dedicated pavilion with over 20 companies and organise B2B matchmaking sessions to connect member companies with potential buyers. Mr Alex Ng, Vice Chairman of the association, emphasised the importance of enhancing Hong Kong’s integration with the GBA and expanding into the Southeast Asian market. “Through this exhibition, we aim to help our members grow regionally and tap into new market opportunities,” he stated.

The fair has already reported an 80% year-on-year increase in AM-related exhibitors, with global leaders such as BLT, Farsoon, HBD, and HP among the confirmed participants. Exhibitors from countries including France, Germany, Singapore, Spain, and the United States will also join the event, while buyer delegations are expected from Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore demonstrating the fair’s rising international appeal.

Mr Richard Li, Chairman of Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co Ltd, reflected on the broader mission of the event, stating: “China’s AM market is one of the fastest-growing in the world. With its advanced infrastructure and skilled workforce, the Greater Bay Area is well-positioned to lead the sector’s next wave of development. Our goal with Formnext Asia Shenzhen is to create a platform that not only showcases cutting-edge innovations but also fosters business partnerships and knowledge exchange. We are committed to building a more open, collaborative and innovation-driven AM ecosystem for Asia.”

With just under a month remaining until the show opens from 26 to 28 August at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, the event promises to be a landmark edition that reflects both regional strength and global ambition in additive manufacturing.

  • Bateriku & Econili Unite to Power Malaysia’s Circular Economy Through Lithium Battery Recycling

Bateriku & Econili Unite to Power Malaysia’s Circular Economy Through Lithium Battery Recycling

Bateriku (M) Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia’s leading connected roadside assistance and car battery ecosystem provider, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Econili Battery New Energy Sdn. Bhd., a licensed and technologically advanced lithium battery and e-waste recycler. This collaboration marks a significant step toward advancing battery waste management solutions and supporting the nation’s broader green economy agenda.

The partnership aims to integrate Econili’s cutting-edge recycling capabilities into Bateriku’s expanding ecosystem. Through this integration, the two companies will work together to ensure the responsible collection, treatment, and processing of used lithium batteries and electronic waste generated through Bateriku’s operations. With sustainability and circular economy goals in focus, the collaboration is expected to contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s net-zero targets.

As Bateriku continues to serve a growing customer base over 1.5 million users through its network of more than 220 Pitstops and 1,000 certified mobile technicians the volume of spent lithium and lead-acid batteries it manages has increased significantly. The partnership ensures these batteries are no longer destined for landfills or hazardous waste disposal routes. Instead, they will be recycled for material recovery, refurbished for second-life use in energy storage systems, or responsibly disposed of in full compliance with environmental regulations.

Group CEO of Bateriku.com, Azarol Faizi, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Recycling is the final piece in our ecosystem. After serving more than two million customers and deploying over 50,000 batteries a month, this partnership is our commitment to a greener Malaysia through our Briged Hijau initiative. We hope to become a dominant force in this space.”

Econili, headquartered in Ipoh, operates a fully licensed facility that handles hazardous electronic waste under strict environmental guidelines. The facility is capable of processing lithium batteries (SW103), metal dross (SW104), and printed circuit boards (SW110). Founder and CEO of Econili, Jayden Goh, remarked, “At Econili, we believe innovation and sustainability go hand-in-hand. With Bateriku’s extensive nationwide presence, this collaboration offers a unique opportunity to create a lasting impact. We envision this partnership thriving for the next 10 to 15 years and beyond.”

The collaboration includes coordinated logistics for battery and e-waste collection, transparent data sharing on recycling outcomes, and regular progress reviews. Both parties have also committed to exploring future innovations in second-life battery applications, localized material recovery, and public education on recycling awareness.

Though the current MoU is a non-binding expression of mutual intent, it lays the groundwork for a long-term, commercially formalized partnership. Set to remain in effect for two years, the agreement supports national goals under the Green Technology Master Plan, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on climate action, responsible consumption, and industry innovation.

Founded in March 2014, Bateriku.com began as an on-demand car battery replacement provider and has since evolved into a comprehensive ecosystem for vehicle owners. The company now connects drivers to roadside assistance, workshops, auto parts, and related services through a technology- and data-driven platform. Bateriku.com operates over 200 Pitstops nationwide and has recently expanded into the Indonesian market with its first outlet in West Jakarta.

Employing over 545 individuals, Bateriku has empowered more than 1,000 gig-based mobile technicians (BHeros), developed 76 entrepreneurs (BPreneurs), and partnered with around 2,000 car workshops and tow-truck operators (BBuddies). The company also offers centralized technical training via Akademi Bateriku, endorsed by Malaysia’s Department of Skills and the National Dual Training System.

Bateriku’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is demonstrated through its battery repurposing efforts, responsible disposal practices, inclusive hiring, and promotion of entrepreneurship through the sharing economy. By leveraging IoT and mobility analytics, the company contributes to Smart City goals by offering predictive breakdown support and real-time vehicle diagnostics.

Together, Bateriku and Econili are paving the way for a smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable energy ecosystem one recycled battery at a time.

  • Naqiu Tegur Penyanyi Baharu: Jangan Sekadar Tiru, Tampil Unik

Naqiu Tegur Penyanyi Baharu: Jangan Sekadar Tiru, Tampil Unik

  • Ramai Tak Sedar: Kanser Hati Lambat Dikesan, Nyawa Jadi Taruhan

Ramai Tak Sedar: Kanser Hati Lambat Dikesan, Nyawa Jadi Taruhan

These efforts are designed to support the company’s vision of operating 300 learning centres across Malaysia by 2028, with future expansion already planned for Thailand, Cambodia, and Singapore.

Co-Founder and CEO Dr. David Yap Wing Fai emphasised that franchising, for YelaoShr, is not just a business model but a mission of empowerment. He highlighted the company’s goal of enabling more Malaysians particularly women, educators, and young professionals to own and operate education centres with a proven system, comprehensive support, and strong social impact. He added that the goal of reaching 300 centres is not just about scale, but about creating 300 stories of transformation and community success.

The ceremony was made even more significant with the announcement that YelaoShr had earned two recognitions from the ASEAN Records. The company was honoured for producing the highest number of graduates from Malaysia’s first trilingual one-on-one formative learning programme, and for signing the most franchise memoranda of agreement in a single day by a Malaysian personalised education brand. These accolades not only reinforce the brand’s position as a leader in the region but also highlight the scalability and effectiveness of its model, which has also been recognised by global education platform HundrED.

To support its growing network, YelaoShr signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HELP University. The partnership allows HELP students to intern at YelaoShr centres and provides high-performing graduates a clear transition into the company’s franchise development programme. This includes mentorship, training, and startup support, ensuring a steady pipeline of well-prepared edupreneurs. Additionally, the collaboration will see annual awards granted to outstanding graduates to help them launch their own YelaoShr centres.

Further reinforcing its mission and values, YelaoShr unveiled a new book titled “Finnish Education is What Malaysian Children Need the Most”. The publication draws on Finland’s world-renowned education philosophy and aligns it with Malaysia’s Madani Education Framework 2025–2035. The book presents a unified vision of child-centric learning where imagination, emotional intelligence, and academic structure coexist to create meaningful educational experiences.

Rooted in a deep commitment to community, YelaoShr concluded the event with contributions worth over RM30,000 to three charitable organisations: Maahad Tahfiz Istiqomatuddin Sementa Klang, Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Darul Falah in Melaka, and Dual Blessing Bhd., a non-profit organisation supporting persons with disabilities. These donations reflect the brand’s belief that educational success must go hand in hand with social responsibility.

Founded by Dr. David Yap and Dr. Carol Yap Yee Yee, YelaoShr has grown from a small home-based language enrichment programme into a national educational platform with over 60 centres. Its journey has been defined by a commitment to equitable access, innovation, and sustainability, with its goals aligned to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. As the brand now expands through franchising, it remains firmly focused on bridging learning gaps, nurturing potential, and enabling children to thrive regardless of background or location.
