Global Rollout of the Samsung SmartThings Update
KUALA LUMPUR – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has officially announced a major update to SmartThings, its global connected living platform now serving 470 million registered users worldwide. The latest software update introduces SmartThings Now at the top of the Home tab, delivers a redesigned Home tab interface, and expands local control capabilities empowering users to access relevant information, execute quick actions, and manage their smart home ecosystem with enhanced reliability and speed.
Contextual Intelligence and Interface Redesign
At the core of the update, SmartThings Now leverages contextual intelligence to surface personalized information and actionable controls based on the user’s immediate environment and daily habits. It can suggest pre-cooling the living room when the user approaches home, prompt check-ins if no activity is detected from family care members, and analyze weekly usage patterns to automatically optimize Home tab Favorites or manage inactive routines. Furthermore, the redesigned Home tab features space-efficient service cards, dynamic Live Wallpaper that shifts throughout the day, and a Floating Bar designed to improve one-handed navigation on larger smartphones.
Advanced Local Control and Matter 1.6 Support
On the technical front, the update introduces advanced local control technology. When a mobile device and a SmartThings Hub share the same Wi-Fi network, commands communicate directly rather than routing through the cloud boosting response times by up to 30% and ensuring uninterrupted device management during internet fluctuations. Samsung has also integrated support for Matter 1.6, introducing four new device categories including Energy Meters, Closures, Irrigation devices, and Soil Sensors to further solidify the platform’s interoperability and stability.
