A Royal Pairing: Hock Kee Kopitiam Partners with D.Masking for the Ultimate Musang King Experience

Two standard-bearers of Malaysian heritage, Hock Kee Kopitiam and D.MasKing by DSR Taiko Berhad, have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch an innovative “orchard-to-kopitiam” dining concept. This partnership marks a pivotal shift in the local food and beverage landscape, merging the luxury of authentic Musang King durian with the enduring appeal of traditional kopitiam culture. By utilizing certified premium fruits from the orchards of Raub, Pahang, the collaboration offers an elevated experience that bridges the gap between rural agricultural excellence and urban lifestyle dining.

The collaboration introduces an exclusive suite of durian-based retail and menu products, meticulously crafted to complement the existing favorites at Hock Kee Kopitiam. Diners can expect a refined twist on local staples, featuring Roti Bakar with Durian Kaya and butter, alongside specialized beverages including Durian-infused Coffee and Durian Teh Tarik. The dessert portfolio is further enhanced by three distinct durian ice cream formats—soft serve, gelato, and sticks—while a range of take-home products such as Durian Dark Chocolate and Durian Chips allows customers to enjoy the collaboration beyond the restaurant walls. These offerings will be rolled out across high-traffic locations including Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC), Bangsar South, The Gardens, and key outlets in Johor Bahru.

At the core of this partnership is a shared commitment to quality and provenance. DSR Taiko Berhad enters the agreement as Malaysia’s first and only company capable of certifying the authentic source of Musang King durians. This level of transparency is achieved through the proprietary Musang King Integrated Traceability System (MKITS)® and a rigorous Standard of Quality (SOQ) protocol, ensuring every fruit used is fully authenticated from the orchard to the consumer’s table. This focus on traceability provides a new benchmark for trust within the industry, ensuring that the “King of Fruits” maintains its premium status in every application.

Guests and media enjoyed premium Musang King, reimagined into familiar local flavours by Hock Kee Kopitiam and D.Masking.

Dato’ Ng Lian Poh, CEO of DSR Taiko Berhad, emphasized that the collaboration is a vehicle for innovation that stays true to Malaysian roots, making premium durians accessible in a way that feels both modern and authentic. Nick Ng, Founder of Hock Kee Kopitiam, noted that the partnership aligns perfectly with the brand’s mission to champion the spirit of Muhibbah and comfort. He stated that the introduction of Musang King is a strategic move to elevate the familiar kopitiam experience, offering customers a premium touch that honors the rich flavors of Malaysia. Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) and Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) have entered into a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step forward in elevating healthcare standards for athletes and sports professionals in Malaysia. The collaboration is set to deliver a more seamless, coordinated and specialised medical journey tailored to the unique demands of high-performance sports.

Built on a shared vision, the partnership focuses on providing comprehensive care across the entire treatment spectrum—from diagnosis and surgical intervention to rehabilitation and safe return to competition. By strengthening clinical collaboration and enabling smoother referral pathways, both institutions aim to ensure that athletes receive timely, precise and high-quality medical attention at every stage of their recovery.

Through this initiative, ISN athletes and staff will gain access to a wide range of specialised services at SMCV, including outpatient and inpatient care, advanced diagnostic imaging such as MRI and CT scans, orthopaedic treatment for sports-related injuries, as well as dermatological care. Treatment strategies will be carefully aligned with each athlete’s specific needs, supported by evidence-based recovery protocols designed to facilitate a safe, confident and high-performing return to sport.

Beyond patient care, the MoU also serves as a platform for continuous knowledge exchange, fostering collaboration between medical specialists and sports science professionals. This ongoing partnership is expected to enhance clinical practices, improve recovery outcomes and contribute to a stronger, more resilient sports healthcare ecosystem in Malaysia—one that supports athletes not only in overcoming injuries, but in sustaining long-term performance and excellence.

  • Nestlé Malaysia Goes Fully Local with 100% Homegrown Chillies for MAGGI

Nestlé Malaysia Goes Fully Local with 100% Homegrown Chillies for MAGGI

Nestlé Malaysia has officially achieved a landmark milestone in its sustainability journey, announcing that 100% of the fresh chillies used in the production of its iconic MAGGI Chilli Sauce are now sourced entirely from local Malaysian farmers.

This achievement was highlighted during an official working visit by the Minister of Economy, YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Bin Haji Mohd Nasir, to the IPRINTAN Putrajaya Project. The visit showcased the success of well-structured farmer partnerships in strengthening national food security while simultaneously providing sustainable livelihoods for B40 communities.

A Milestone in Self-Sufficiency and Economic Empowerment

The project is powered by the Nestlé Chilli Club (NCC), a contract farming program established in 1995. Today, the initiative supports farmers across 12 strategic sites in Kelantan, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Johor, spanning 146 acres of farmland.

During the briefing, the Minister was updated on the high-yield farming initiative’s socio-economic impact. Key highlights include:

    • Income Security: Participating farmers in the IPRINTAN Putrajaya project now earn an average monthly income of approximately RM3,000.
    • Economic Contribution: The current 2026 cycle (the project’s fifth) has yielded over 200 tonnes of chillies, with an estimated market value of RM1.5 million.
    • Traceability: By sourcing directly, Nestlé ensures a fully traceable and high-quality supply chain for its locally produced MAGGI products.

    Building a Resilient Food System

Mr. Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, emphasized that the company’s “Creating Shared Value” (CSV) approach is the driving force behind these partnerships.

“Supporting the livelihoods of local farmers is integral to both our value chain and the nation’s food security agenda. Long-term partnerships with farming communities and government stakeholders, such as our collaboration with IPRINTAN, reflect our shared responsibility to build a more resilient and self-sufficient food system while empowering B40 households,” said Aranols.

    Expansion and Regenerative Agriculture

Nestlé Malaysia provides participating farmers with specialized training in eco-friendly regenerative agricultural practices. This modern approach focuses on soil health and farm productivity, ensuring sustainable yields for generations to come.

Originally established in Kelantan in partnership with Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) Bukit Awang, the program expanded to Selangor in 2021 via PPK Kuala Langat. In 2025, the initiative advanced further with a specialized greenhouse project in collaboration with Chin Siam Chiap (CSS) Johor, ensuring a stable, year-round supply of fresh chillies.

Broader Impact: The Farmer Connect Programme

The success of the Nestlé Chilli Club is a cornerstone of the broader Farmer Connect initiative. This program supports hundreds of farmers across various commodities nationwide:

    • Kedah and Perlis: Sustainable rice cultivation and agronomy support.
    • Sabah and Sarawak: Responsible cocoa sourcing in collaboration with the Malaysian Cocoa Board.
    • Kelantan and Kedah: Dedicated coffee farming programs in Gua Musang and surrounding areas.

By integrating locally grown ingredients directly into its manufacturing value chain, Nestlé Malaysia continues to provide consistent market access and long-term capacity building for Malaysian smallholders, paving the way for a more sustainable and food-secure future.

Nestlé Malaysia has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s Halal ecosystem and developing future-ready talent through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kulliyyah of Science, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Kuantan. The collaboration aims to advance Halal Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

The MoU marks a significant step in bridging the gap between industry and academia, with both parties sharing a common objective of equipping young Malaysians with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the evolving Halal industry. The signing ceremony was held during the Halal STEM Expo at the IIUM Kuantan Campus, which brought together around 500 participants comprising upper secondary school students from across Pahang.

Under this partnership, IIUM Kuantan will develop educational modules with support from Nestlé Malaysia, alongside the introduction of hands-on competitions designed to provide students with practical, real-world learning experiences. As part of the Halal STEM Expo initiative, the programme featured interactive experiments, exhibition booths, competitions and knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at enhancing student engagement and understanding of Halal STEM.

Beyond student-centred programmes, the MoU also outlines wider areas of collaboration, including joint research in Halal science and food innovation, knowledge-sharing initiatives, as well as participation in conferences, workshops and academic publications. He also noted that these efforts support national aspirations to increase STEM participation among students and further reinforce Malaysia’s position as a global Halal hub.

  • ICBS 2026 Returns as Malaysia’s Largest Café and Beverage Trade Show with First-Ever Dedicated Tea Segment

The International Café and Beverage Show (ICBS) 2026 returns for its 5th edition from 7 to 9 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, bringing together a dynamic global community under one roof. Over the three-day event, ICBS is expected to welcome 650 brands, 1,000 baristas and 2,000 café owners, with an estimated 13,000 attendees from 55 countries. As Malaysia’s only dedicated café and beverage trade show, ICBS has evolved from a niche industry gathering into a key indicator of the direction café culture is taking in Malaysia and across the wider region.

Organised by Montgomery Asia in partnership with Barista Guild Asia, Eciatto, and HJC Global Tea Fair, ICBS 2026 introduces several new developments that reflect the industry’s rapid evolution. The most notable addition this year is a dedicated tea segment developed with HJC Global Tea Fair, marking a first in the show’s five-year history. This segment brings global tea innovations to the ICBS floor at a time when tea is increasingly moving from a supporting offering to a central feature in modern café menus across Malaysia and the region.

According to Mr Alun Jones, Project Director of Montgomery Asia, ICBS has become a catalyst for Southeast Asia’s beverage economy, serving as a platform where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are formed, and businesses discover new pathways for growth. He added that as the show enters its fifth edition, it not only reflects the industry but actively helps shape it. In 2026, the beverage landscape is more diverse and innovation-driven than ever, with coffee continuing to anchor café culture while speciality tea, ready-to-drink beverages and mixology-inspired concepts gaining strong momentum. ICBS, he noted, is designed to give industry players direct access to these emerging opportunities.

The timing of this growth is significant. Malaysia’s foodservice sector is valued at USD 14.75 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 27.50 billion by 2030, according to industry data. Within this, demand for premium and functional beverages is accelerating, with the ready-to-drink tea segment alone expected to grow by USD 32.4 million between 2025 and 2030. These figures reflect broader shifts in consumer behaviour, including how Malaysians spend, socialise and seek new experiences, with ICBS serving as a key platform for the industry to respond to these changes.

Anchoring the competitive element of the show is the Malaysia Open Coffee Championship (MOCC), which brings together 38 competitors across three categories: the Malaysia Open Brewers Cup, Malaysia Open Latte Art Championship and Malaysia Open Barista Championship. Beyond being a skills showcase, the MOCC functions as a talent pipeline that continues to elevate standards within Malaysia’s barista community.

Alongside these championships, ICBS 2026 will also spotlight Malaysia’s evolving beverage creativity through the Unite Malaysian Taste Challenge 2026. The competition gathers emerging and experienced mixologists to craft story-driven mocktails inspired by Malaysia’s diverse flavour heritage, transforming local ingredients into distinctive expressions of taste. More than a mixology showcase, it reinforces ICBS’s role as a platform where Malaysian concepts take centre stage, offering producers and café operators a meaningful opportunity to present homegrown innovation to both trade and public audiences.

Mr Alun Jones further noted that Malaysia’s café scene has matured significantly over the past decade, moving beyond chain coffee into a landscape defined by independent cafés, speciality roasters and concept-driven spaces, supported by a consumer base that actively seeks out these experiences. He emphasised that ICBS sits at the centre of this ecosystem, not only as an exhibition but as a space where the next wave of ideas in Malaysian café culture often emerges.

Entry to ICBS 2026 is free, with registration now open. The exhibition runs from 7 to 9 May, welcoming trade visitors throughout all three days, while opening to the public on 9 May for visitors to experience the show floor and explore the latest developments in coffee, tea and beverage innovation. More information on ICBS 2026, including exhibition opportunities, partnership enquiries and visitor passes, is available at https://intl-cbs.com/.
