Haier Malaysia is proud to announce the return of the Haier Cup 2025, now entering its third and most ambitious edition. This year’s tournament promises to be bigger, broader, and more inclusive, as it welcomes not only amateur badminton players aged 18 and above but also young talents through the newly introduced Haier Cup Junior. Aimed at uncovering Malaysia’s future badminton champions, the Haier Cup Junior is open to participants aged 7 to 21, offering a fresh platform for youth and school-based athletes to develop their skills and showcase their potential.
The addition of Haier Cup Junior signals a major step forward in Haier Malaysia’s dedication to supporting sports development and family engagement. It transforms the Haier Cup into a true community event, encouraging participation from across generations. The initiative aims to strengthen the spirit of unity and sportsmanship by giving families, schoolchildren, and budding athletes the chance to compete together in a supportive and competitive setting. The main Haier Cup tournament remains open to all enthusiasts aged 18 and above, and with expanded categories and state-level qualifiers, it’s set to be the brand’s biggest tournament yet.
Julian Thean, Brand Marketing Assistant Director of Haier Malaysia, shared that the tournament is more than just a sporting event it’s a celebration of passion, talent, and community. He emphasized Haier’s commitment to growing Malaysia’s badminton culture and nurturing a healthier, more active lifestyle among Malaysians. Winners and runners-up in both the junior and main categories will receive medals, cash prizes, Haier home appliances, Yonex merchandise, and exclusive tournament jerseys. Most notably, national champions will go on to represent Malaysia in the regional tournament in Indonesia, with all expenses fully covered by Haier.
Since its inaugural edition in 2023, the Haier Cup has grown rapidly in participation and prestige. From nearly 400 players in its first year, the 2025 tournament expects to draw over 1,000 players competing in Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles categories. The competition kicks off with the State Challenge rounds, starting in Kuching on 10 May, followed by Johor Bahru on 14 June, Penang on 5 July, and Kuala Lumpur on 9 August. The top performers from each state will then converge in Kuala Lumpur for the Grand Finals on 10 August 2025, vying for the chance to represent the country on an international stage.

The newly launched Haier Cup Junior, to be held on 19 and 20 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, is expected to attract 300 young players. It includes Boys’ and Girls’ Singles and Doubles across multiple age groups, and a special Parents & Child category that fosters family involvement and fun. Finalists and semi-finalists will be recognised with medals and certificates to celebrate their achievements and growth in the sport. This junior tournament reflects Haier’s belief in early talent cultivation and its vision of creating long-term impact through sports engagement.
Julian Thean further explained that badminton continues to be a powerful force in uniting Malaysians. The introduction of the Haier Cup Junior is in response to the strong support received from previous editions, and reflects Haier’s brand ethos of “More Creation, More Possibilities.” By broadening the tournament’s reach, Haier hopes to inspire more Malaysians to participate, connect, and challenge themselves both physically and mentally through the sport.
The Haier Cup is more than just a tournament—it’s a platform for self-discovery, community bonding, and healthy living. It invites Malaysians of all skill levels and backgrounds to experience the joy of friendly competition while pursuing their personal best. Whether one is a passionate amateur, an aspiring young athlete, or a parent cheering from the sidelines, the Haier Cup 2025 aims to be an unforgettable celebration of Malaysia’s badminton spirit.
Building on the momentum of previous years, the 2025 tournament carries the legacy of success from 2024, when Team Malaysia not only represented the nation but also triumphed as overall champions at the regional level by defeating Vietnam in a thrilling final match. That victory has set the bar even higher for this year’s competitors and reinforces the potential of Malaysian talent on the international stage.
