SHENZHEN, CHINA, 15 October 2026 — Genting Property Sdn Bhd, the property division of Genting Plantations Berhad, has entered into a strategic partnership with Huawei to accelerate the development of Johor Tech Smart City (JTSC) as an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered smart technology hub in Malaysia.
The landmark collaboration was formalised through a master planning agreement between Genting Property and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at the Shenzhen Longgang International Art Centre, in conjunction with Huawei’s “Cloud-Powered Infrastructure – A New Digital Ecosystem” event. The agreement marks a significant step in moving JTSC from its conceptual stage towards active implementation.
Under the partnership, Huawei will support the master planning of JTSC, including its flagship 430-acre Smart Campus within the Knowledge AI Campus. Huawei’s global expertise in AI, intelligent infrastructure and integrated smart campus development will be incorporated from the early planning stages to ensure the project aligns with leading international standards.
The collaboration also marks a milestone for Huawei, with JTSC becoming its first international Smart Campus partnership and representing the company’s first overseas deployment of its AI-enabled master-planning capabilities. Huawei’s experience in developing large-scale smart campuses in Shanghai and Dongguan is expected to provide a valuable foundation for establishing a next-generation innovation ecosystem in Johor.
Dato’ Indera Lim Keong Hui, Chief Executive and Executive Director of Genting Plantations, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to deliver meaningful real-world impact, particularly by empowering local talent and attracting high-value investments. He emphasised that the 430-acre Smart Campus would serve as a premier destination for global innovation, creating opportunities for Malaysians to participate in the country’s technological and economic growth.
Meanwhile, Mr. Du Xianjun, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia’s Enterprise Business Group, described the collaboration with Genting Property as an important step in extending Huawei’s smart campus model beyond China. He expressed confidence that the JTSC Smart Campus could establish a new benchmark for developing and managing intelligent ecosystems worldwide, integrating advanced technology, innovation and lifestyle elements.
Beyond the development of JTSC, the partnership is expected to create opportunities for broader digital transformation across the Genting Plantations Group. Potential areas of collaboration include the application of advanced technologies in agricultural innovation, sustainable energy management and data-driven corporate infrastructure, supporting greater operational efficiency and long-term business growth.
The development is also expected to strengthen the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) as a key regional growth corridor by creating a technology-driven environment capable of attracting multinational corporations, investors and global innovators. The integrated ecosystem could support the expansion of advanced manufacturing and production activities while encouraging knowledge sharing and raising the technological capabilities of local industries.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Executive Chairman of Genting Berhad, and Mr. Ren Shulu (Steven Ren), Executive Member of Huawei’s Supervisory Board and Chief Logistics Officer, highlighting the strategic significance of the partnership to both organisations.
Through the combination of Huawei’s technological expertise and Genting Property’s development vision, JTSC aims to contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy, expand opportunities for local innovation and strengthen the country’s position as a destination for next-generation digital infrastructure and technology-driven investment.
