  • Generasi Muda Sajikan Kreativiti: Pertandingan Memasak MAGGI® Ke-28 Catat Sejarah Baharu

Generasi Muda Sajikan Kreativiti: Pertandingan Memasak MAGGI® Ke-28 Catat Sejarah Baharu

  • Boost Your Mind: 5 Proven Ways to Sharpen Focus and Lift Your Mood

Boost Your Mind: 5 Proven Ways to Sharpen Focus and Lift Your Mood

Ever feel like your brain is constantly buzzing with information? Our brain is the body’s most vital asset — a powerhouse that’s always active, absorbing, and adapting. From learning and remembering to making decisions and solving problems, it tackles an enormous stream of information every single day. Despite taking up only about two percent of our body mass, the brain consumes nearly 20 percent of our energy, proving just how demanding and metabolically active it is.

According to Dr. Vipada Sae-Lao, Nutrition Education and Training Lead – Asia Pacific at Herbalife, our fast-paced lives often have us juggling multiple roles and tasks, much like a supercomputer operating at full capacity. She explains that moments where we forget a word mid-sentence or misplace our keys are natural lapses in how our brain manages multiple tasks. However, as we age, these experiences tend to become more frequent due to changes in our nervous system.

The Global Burden of Disease Study from 1990 to 2021 highlights a rise in brain-related disorders such as stroke, migraine, and Alzheimer’s disease across Asia. In Malaysia alone, about 8.5 percent of older adults — roughly 260,000 people — are living with dementia, and this number could climb to as high as 825,000 by 2050. Mental health issues are also becoming increasingly common. The Ministry of Health reports that more than 40 percent of Malaysians are expected to experience at least one mental health condition in their lifetime, with mental disorders contributing to 37 percent of the nation’s total disability burden. The National Health and Morbidity Survey 2015 revealed that nearly three in ten Malaysians aged 16 and above are already affected by mental health problems.

While genetics, environmental exposures, and lifestyle choices all influence brain vitality, there is good news — research shows that our brain has the remarkable ability to learn and adapt throughout life. This means we can take proactive steps to support cognitive health and mental resilience at any age.

Dr. Vipada emphasizes that brain vitality begins on our plate. The familiar saying “you are what you eat” can be reinterpreted as “you feel and think what you eat.” Essential nutrients play a crucial role in mental performance, emotional stability, and the protection of the nervous system. Diets rich in antioxidants and healthy fats help reduce inflammation and support overall brain health. Foods like spinach, kale, eggs, and avocados contain lutein, a powerful nutrient that enhances cognitive wellness. Fresh fruits such as berries, grapes, apples, and cherries, as well as vegetables like carrots and tomatoes, offer antioxidants that help protect brain cells from damage. Eggs are also an excellent source of protein and contain vitamins B, D, and E, which help regulate mood and memory. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish and nuts can improve learning ability, while cooking with healthier oils like olive oil supports memory and learning. Maintaining a healthy weight and staying hydrated with green or black tea can further promote brain function by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

Movement is another essential component of cognitive health. The Malaysian Dietary Guidelines recommend that adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise weekly. Regular physical activity improves mood, lowers stress, and enhances cognitive function, reducing the risk of cognitive decline as we age.

Just as the body benefits from movement, the brain thrives on mental challenges. Reading, solving puzzles, learning new skills, or picking up a new language are all effective ways to stimulate neural connections. Activities such as swimming, painting, cooking, or practicing tai chi not only engage the mind but also encourage mindfulness and creativity. Incorporating practices like meditation, yoga, or spending quiet time in nature can further improve mental clarity and emotional balance.

Equally important is maintaining clean and healthy habits. Reducing exposure to pollutants, minimizing screen time, and keeping surroundings tidy can help preserve mental well-being. Avoiding addictive behaviors such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption is vital, as these habits are known to harm brain health.

Finally, nurturing meaningful social connections plays a powerful role in maintaining emotional and cognitive wellness. Strong, supportive relationships with family and friends have been shown to improve memory, boost mood, and promote long-term brain health. Spending quality time with loved ones provides emotional support and fosters resilience, helping the mind stay sharp and positive.

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day, these simple yet powerful practices — nourishing the body, staying active, keeping the mind engaged, maintaining healthy habits, and fostering strong relationships — serve as a foundation for better focus, improved mood, and lasting mental resilience.

  • KAO Malaysia & Universiti Malaya Unite for Breakthroughs in Skin Health

KAO Malaysia & Universiti Malaya Unite for Breakthroughs in Skin Health

KAO Malaysia and Universiti Malaya (UM) have announced the successful completion of the “Skin Protection, Life Perfection” campaign with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalising their joint commitment to advancing public health through skincare education and research.

As part of this collaboration, KAO Malaysia, through its leading skincare brand Bioré, is contributing RM50,000 in funding across two flagship initiatives led by Universiti Malaya. The first initiative is a community engagement programme titled “Beautiful Change Begins with Us,” managed by the Universiti Malaya Community Engagement Centre (UMCares). This programme focuses on hygiene awareness, environmental sustainability, and positive mental wellness for teenagers, adults, and children. The second initiative is a research collaboration titled “Innovative Clean Skincare Formulations for Skin Protection and Healthy Living,” which will be conducted by the Faculty of Science at Universiti Malaya. Both projects are part of KAO Malaysia’s 1% pledge of Bioré product sales to support local skin health research.

Mr. Yamazaki Hirobumi, President of KAO Malaysia, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating that the partnership reflects KAO’s commitment to going beyond product innovation to create meaningful, science-driven impact in the communities it serves. He emphasised that skin protection is not just a personal care choice but a public health responsibility, and expressed pride in working with Universiti Malaya to advance this vision for the benefit of all Malaysians.

This MoU marks KAO Malaysia’s first academic partnership with an educational institution in the country. Through this collaboration, KAO and UM aim to bridge science and public awareness to position skincare as a fundamental pillar of community health. Guided by the shared vision of “Skin Protection, Life Perfection,” the campaign initially began as a community awareness initiative and has now been extended through KAO’s funding support. This will enable Universiti Malaya to strengthen its community engagement programmes and enhance its research efforts with new resources and equipment for long-term impact in skin health and wellness education.

Associate Professor ChM. Dr. Noraini Ahmad, Director of UMCares, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, noting that the MoU opens new opportunities to translate academic research into practical solutions. She added that the partnership will drive advancements in clean formulation development while fostering greater community engagement.

The MoU was officially signed between Mr. Yamazaki Hirobumi, President of KAO Malaysia, and Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaya. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Watsons Malaysia and included a symbolic donation handover to mark the shared commitment of all parties toward meaningful collaboration.

The “Skin Protection, Life Perfection” campaign was originally launched in May 2025 in partnership with Watsons, championing skin protection as the key to confidence. Powered by Bioré’s “Cleanse. Protect.” philosophy, the initiative combined expert education, engaging consumer experiences, and a pledge of one percent of product sales to support local research. With Universiti Malaya and skincare professionals lending their expertise, Watsons helped bring the campaign to life nationwide with exclusive rewards and member perks.

With the signing of the MoU, the partnership now moves forward with a long-term commitment to advancing skin health, ensuring that the collaboration between KAO Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, and Watsons will continue to benefit communities across Malaysia for years to come.

  • Heart Strong: Nourishing the Body, Moving with Purpose, Living Mindfully

Heart Strong: Nourishing the Body, Moving with Purpose, Living Mindfully

We live in an era powered by information, with scientific breakthroughs, advancing technology, rising awareness, and economic progress shaping the way we live and care for ourselves. As access to healthcare improves and health-related conversations become more mainstream, one might assume this would translate into fewer health issues. Yet, ironically, cardiovascular health continues to pose a significant challenge in Malaysia. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, in 2023, ischaemic heart disease remained the second leading cause of death, responsible for 15.1 percent of all medically certified deaths.

As Vipada Sae-Lao, Nutrition Education and Training Lead for Asia Pacific at Herbalife, explained, many people still imagine heart disease as an issue that primarily affects older individuals who appear visibly unwell. However, studies indicate that within Asian communities, heart-related concerns are developing at a younger age, sometimes silently and even among those who look fit. Modern work pressures, changing diets, rising stress, and sedentary lifestyles, combined with overlooked health indicators, are quietly impacting our overall well-being and particularly our heart health.

Understanding how the cardiovascular system works is an important first step toward protecting it. The human heart, though small and roughly the size of a fist, is an extraordinary muscle that powers the entire body. With each beat, it sends oxygen-rich blood to every organ, tissue, and cell while removing waste products such as carbon dioxide.

In conjunction with World Heart Day on September 29, 2025, it is timely to reflect on some practical habits that can strengthen and protect cardiovascular health. A heart-healthy diet is essential. Choosing whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds ensures a regular supply of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and dietary fiber that support heart function. Incorporating healthy fats, including olive oil, avocado, flaxseed, and fatty fish like salmon or mackerel, provides omega-3 fatty acids that reduce the risk of heart problems. Reducing the consumption of trans fats, saturated fats, sugar, and salt is equally important. Excessive sugar contributes to obesity and diabetes, both of which are significant risk factors for heart disease, while too much salt increases the risk of high blood pressure. Flavorful herbs and spices can be used to replace excess salt without compromising taste.

Equally vital are lifestyle changes that promote heart health. Staying physically active helps manage weight, improves circulation, and supports the natural production of nitric oxide, a molecule essential for optimal cardiovascular function. Just 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each day, such as walking, cycling, or swimming, can make a difference. Alongside activity, ensuring seven to nine hours of quality sleep allows the body to rest, repair, and maintain a healthy cardiovascular system.

Avoiding harmful habits is another key factor. Smoking damages the arteries, increases fatty deposits, and significantly raises the risk of cardiovascular disease. Even second-hand smoke can elevate the risk of stroke. While some turn to e-cigarettes in an effort to quit, these too can increase heart-related risks. On a more positive note, quitting smoking at any stage can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease. Similarly, cutting back on alcohol protects cardiovascular health. Excessive drinking is linked to high blood pressure and obesity, but moderation—such as alternating alcoholic drinks with water or opting for non-alcoholic alternatives—can lessen its impact.

Stress management also plays a powerful role in protecting the heart. Chronic stress can elevate blood pressure, raise cholesterol, and lead to harmful coping behaviors such as overeating or smoking. It also increases the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which in turn heightens the risk of heart disease. Finding ways to manage stress, whether through yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, or engaging in enjoyable activities, brings both mental balance and measurable physical benefits.

Monitoring health markers completes the picture of prevention. Regular check-ups to track blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels help catch potential problems early. Today, wearable technology such as smartwatches and fitness trackers makes it easier to monitor heart rate, activity levels, sleep patterns, and other vital signs in real time. These data points, when shared with healthcare professionals, can provide valuable insights, particularly for individuals at higher risk.

In our fast-paced world, the steps to better heart health do not need to be complicated. Whether by making mindful food choices, engaging in regular movement, reducing harmful habits, managing stress, or keeping a close watch on key health metrics, every effort counts. Even the smallest changes today can pave the way for a healthier heart and a stronger future.

M+Global by Malacca Securities, Malaysia’s number one stock trading platform and trusted all-in-one trading app, has unveiled its very first stockbroking concept store at KL Eco City. Positioned as the country’s first of its kind stock trading retail experience, the concept store brings together financial technology and a human touch to help Malaysians, particularly those between the ages of 25 to 45, close financial knowledge gaps with clarity and confidence in a premium physical space.

The launch ceremony was attended by representatives from Bursa Malaysia and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, and included a special tele-presentation by Malaysia’s rising badminton star, Toh Ee Wei. The concept store offers a new level of engagement with features such as a product experience zone, an investment learning hub, retail merchandise, private consultation, and a lively “Snap It” photo zone designed to enhance the learning journey.

Speaking at the launch, M+Global Managing Director Lim Chia Wei explained that the concept store strengthens the company’s promise of “Less Guessing, More Guiding.” She emphasized that the focus on financial education is aimed at moving Malaysians beyond simply saving money to actively growing their wealth through knowledge, advice, and strategic investing. With more than 200 in-house licensed investment experts, M+Global will also host a series of sharing sessions, talks, and seminars in collaboration with other professionals to provide a complete and well-rounded financial perspective.

The initiative comes at a critical time. According to Bank Negara Malaysia, the Malaysia Financial Literacy and Capability Index has improved from 57.1 in 2018 to 59.1 in 2024, yet challenges remain in terms of financial behavior and resilience. The 2024 Financial Capability and Inclusion survey found that 61 percent of Malaysians struggle to raise as little as RM1,000 in an emergency. Many save regularly, but often only for short-term needs, while debt from student loans and personal credit continues to weigh heavily, with 26 percent of Malaysians reporting that they carry too much debt.

By leveraging more than 60 years of financial services expertise through Malacca Securities, M+Global is addressing these challenges with a fresh approach. Visitors to the store will gain access to private consultations tailored to their investment needs, ensuring personalized support that takes individual goals and challenges into account. The Investment Learning Hub also offers a new dimension to financial education through workshops, seminars, talk shows, and interactive sessions that make money matters engaging and relatable.

October will see the launch of its interactive talk series with BBK Network, known for breaking down complex financial concepts into fun and relatable advice that resonates with young Malaysians. In November, the program will feature Financial Faiz, a well-regarded financial educator who provides practical, step-by-step strategies for wealth building and financial independence. The series will continue in January with a special guest to be announced later.

In conjunction with the launch, M+Global also introduced its first brand ambassador, Toh Ee Wei, one of Malaysia’s most promising badminton players and fresh off her historic gold medal victory in mixed doubles at the 2025 World Championships in Paris. As brand ambassador, Toh will highlight the importance of financial literacy and planning, particularly among young Malaysians and national athletes. Her appointment is also symbolic of continuity, as her father has served M+Global for over two decades.

The opening of the M+Global Concept Store marks a new milestone in making financial knowledge accessible, personal, and engaging. By combining education, expert guidance, and community-driven events, the store represents a step forward in helping Malaysians move from uncertainty to empowerment in their financial journeys.

  • 95% of Malaysians Believe Prevention is Better Than Cure, Herbalife Finds

Malaysians are embracing preventive healthcare like never before, with 95 percent agreeing that it is important to their personal well-being. Many have already begun making positive lifestyle changes, from choosing healthier meals to incorporating supplements into their daily routines. Herbalife, a premier health and wellness company, community and platform, is committed to sustaining this momentum.

These insights are drawn from Herbalife’s 2025 Asia Pacific Responsible Supplementation Survey, which was conducted in May this year across 11 Asia Pacific markets including Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. In Malaysia, 1,000 respondents participated, sharing their habits and attitudes towards health supplements. The results revealed not only strong commitment but also opportunities to strengthen knowledge and support.

The survey showed that 43 percent of Malaysians take supplements daily, with nearly two-thirds consuming more than one type. General health and immunity emerged as the leading reasons for supplementation, followed by energy and focus, as well as skin, hair, and beauty. Encouragingly, 65 percent of respondents expressed confidence in their ability to make responsible supplement decisions, placing Malaysia among the most confident countries in the region alongside Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

At the same time, 82 percent of Malaysians acknowledged the importance of making informed decisions about supplementation, with doctors and nutritionists being the most trusted sources of information. When purchasing supplements, healthcare professional recommendations, product safety and efficacy, and product quality certifications ranked as the top considerations.

Steven Chin, Senior Director and Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, said that Malaysians are demonstrating strong commitment to their health and that the company’s goal is to provide them with the right tools, knowledge, and support to continue their wellness journey. He noted that the results are encouraging, as Malaysians are becoming more confident in their choices and increasingly turn to healthcare professionals for guidance. He added that Herbalife aims to build on this by working closely with reputable organizations, universities, and wellness experts to strengthen public nutrition education.

To further encourage healthier lifestyles, Herbalife launched the 2025 National Wellness “Check In” Campaign from May to July this year. The initiative travelled to 33 cities and towns across Malaysia, engaging over 8,000 people with free body analyses, balanced nutrition guidance, and personalized supplement advice.

According to Steven, the campaign was designed to meet people where they are and to provide practical, science-based guidance that can be applied in everyday life. The effort went beyond the Klang Valley, reaching the north, south, east coast, Sabah, and Sarawak to ensure that communities nationwide had access to wellness resources. With the support of Herbalife’s network of Distributors, the campaign was able to extend its reach into both small towns and major cities, bringing health education directly to local communities.

He emphasized that while more Malaysians are embracing preventive healthcare, the nation continues to face the burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as the challenge of malnutrition. This made it vital to reach every corner of the country, giving people the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and walk away with simple, actionable steps to improve their health.

The campaign concluded with a series of Wellness Expos held in major cities including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Kuching, and Penang, as well as smaller towns such as Segamat, Batu Pahat, Sibu, Sarikei, and Kuantan, ensuring that Malaysians from all walks of life could benefit from the initiative.
