Nestlé Malaysia Shares Rise on Strategic Green Partnership with SWCorp in Kedah

Investor confidence in Nestlé Malaysia Berhad saw a positive bump today, with shares rising following the announcement of a strategic green partnership with the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) to boost plastic recycling ecosystems in Kedah. The market responded favorably to the expansion of Nestlé’s flagship voluntary Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) initiative, Project SAVE (Segregate, Avoid, Value, Educate), which signals strong corporate alignment with modern environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks that increasingly drive institutional investment.

The formalized alliance, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange at a community event in Kulim, marks a major operational scaling for Nestlé’s sustainability portfolio. Witnessed by the Tunku Temenggong of Kedah, YTM Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, the partnership directly addresses post-consumer packaging waste. For investors, Nestlé’s proactive approach to voluntary EPR mitigation reduces long-term regulatory risks and positions the consumer goods giant as a leader in sustainable market practices, driving a favorable outlook on the trading floor.

Financially and operationally, Project SAVE has demonstrated high-efficiency metrics since its inception in 2020, scaling nationwide to reach roughly 260,000 households across nine cities. By integrating weekly door-to-door collection with municipal councils and private recyclers, the programme diverted 15,000 tonnes of solid waste—including 10,000 tonnes of plastic—from landfills and oceans. The newly strengthened Kedah footprint expands on a successful pilot that has already captured 100,000 kilograms of recyclables in Kulim, presenting a highly scalable model that mitigates environmental liabilities while securing resource circularity.

According to Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, the measurable progress of the initiative relies on these strong ground partnerships paired with household participation to turn small daily habits into nationwide economic and environmental impact. This structured operational efficiency was echoed by SWCorp Chief Executive Officer, Tuan Khalid Bin Mohammed, who emphasized that robust coordination between local authorities and corporate partners is exactly what secures the long-term viability of the recycling ecosystem. As Nestlé continues to hit its green milestones, the market is recognizing that the company’s transition toward a circular economy actively protects both the environment and shareholder value.
