    Hilux, bZ4X and Urban Cruiser – Toyota’s Bold EV Entry in Malaysia

    UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) today celebrated a major milestone in Malaysia’s mobility journey with the introduction of battery electric vehicles, expanding its electrified mobility portfolio as part of a long-term commitment to advancing low-emission transportation. This move reflects Toyota’s Multi-Pathway approach to electrification, where diverse technologies work together to support the transition toward carbon neutrality while ensuring mobility solutions remain practical for Malaysians in their everyday lives.

    As part of this expansion, UMWT unveiled three battery electric vehicles: the Toyota bZ4X, Urban Cruiser, and Hilux BEV. Together, these models broaden Toyota’s electrified offerings across passenger SUVs, urban mobility, and commercial pickup applications, supporting the shift toward lower emissions while addressing the varied needs of Malaysian drivers and industries. This initiative embodies UMWT’s “Move Your World” philosophy, which focuses on developing mobility solutions that connect people, communities, and industries nationwide.

    The launch event at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin, who highlighted that the introduction of electrified vehicles reflects the ongoing evolution of Malaysia’s automotive sector. He noted that Malaysia’s automotive industry has grown into a highly integrated ecosystem connecting manufacturers, suppliers, engineers, and technology specialists, and that investments in new technologies will strengthen local capabilities while keeping Malaysia competitive as a regional automotive hub.

    Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasized that Toyota’s electrification strategy is tailored to the realities of each market. In Malaysia, vehicles play both economic and social roles, connecting communities across long distances and supporting industries that rely on dependable transport. He stressed that electrified mobility must be introduced at the right time and in ways that genuinely benefit Malaysians and their industries.

    Leading the lineup is the Toyota bZ4X, a dedicated battery electric SUV developed under the Beyond Zero philosophy, priced from RM220,000. It offers enhanced performance with improved power efficiency and battery capacity, delivering a range of up to 480 km. Built on a BEV-specific architecture, it features a newly developed eAxle system, advanced battery temperature management for faster DC charging, and a 14-inch multimedia display with enhanced voice recognition, all combined with a spacious cabin and refined driving experience.

    The Hilux BEV, priced from RM226,300, brings electrification to one of Toyota’s most iconic pickup models. As Toyota’s first global retail pickup BEV, it is designed under the “Tough and Agile” concept and equipped with advanced features such as a 12.3-inch TFT display, Multi-Terrain Select, Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Toyota Safety Sense 3 driver assistance technologies. It is intended to serve both fleet and individual users across industries including logistics, construction, agriculture, and government operations.

    Completing the lineup is the Urban Cruiser, a compact electric SUV designed for modern urban lifestyles, priced from RM198,000. Developed under the “Urban Tech” concept, it combines bold SUV styling with efficient packaging and practical interior space. Highlights include an integrated digital display system, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic roof option, and a distinctive squircle-shaped steering wheel, creating a modern and intuitive driving environment for city mobility.
