  • Formnext + PM South China 2024 to accelerate China’s advanced manufacturing ambitions

In December of last year, the Chinese government released a report that identified additive manufacturing (AM) and powder metallurgy as part of the nation’s “strategic emerging industries.”1This recognition highlights the significance of these technologies in the country’s strategic plan for long-term industrial growth and sets them up for additional research and investment opportunities. Formnext + PM South China is set to make a comeback at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Centre from 28 – 30 August 2024, showcasing its unwavering dedication to this industry. The event aims to create a platform for Chinese and international companies in the additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, and advanced ceramics industries to come together. This gathering will foster new business opportunities and encourage collaboration among participants.

Across various industries such as automotive, aerospace, defence, dental, and electronics, advanced manufacturing technologies are gaining popularity on a global scale. China’s additive manufacturing industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, expanding at an impressive rate of nearly 30% between 2015 and 2022. The expansion has facilitated the rise of an increasing number of local businesses in the industry.

The current market conditions also have an impact on powder metallurgy, which, similar to metal additive manufacturing, depends on powdered metal feedstock. With the increasing popularity of metal AM systems, there is a growing need for top-notch metal powders. This has led to significant progress in materials and production methods within the interconnected supply chains.

In 2024, Formnext + PM South China will bring together these interconnected fields once more, serving as a central hub for industry professionals to explore innovative solutions, forge partnerships, and propel technological advancement. The 2023 event demonstrated its status as a thriving centre for innovation and collaboration, with a significant rise in exhibitor and visitor numbers, reaching 38% and 41% respectively. This year, the event is set to maintain its growth with an expected 300 exhibitors covering 20,000 sqm of floor space.

The event draws high-profile exhibitors from both domestic and international markets, offering a wide range of equipment, materials, software, services, post-processing solutions, and more.
