  • OPPO Showcases its Sustainability Actions at COP28

    The 28th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP28) is taking place in Dubai, UAE from November 30 to December 12, 2023, bringing a global assembly of stakeholders dedicated to combating climate change. This year, OPPO was invited to join the COP28 Leadership Interviews, featuring a series of discussions among pioneers and business leaders on how collective action across various industries can contribute to a positive impact for the future. As an exclusive representative from telecommunication industry, OPPO shares its sustainability initiatives through innovation. To further support innovation in greening, OPPO also invites Bluepha Co., Ltd, one of the global winners of the 2023 OPPO Inspiration Challenge to showcase its green material as a substitute for plastic to a global audience at the exhibition area during the COP28.

    Making electronic devices greener

    From the selection of raw materials to product usage and recycling, OPPO has seamlessly integrated the concept of sustainability into product lifecycle management, aiming to minimize the environmental impact of our products. In 2023, OPPO pledged to achieve carbon neutrality across its global operations by 2050.

    Taking the self-developed OPPO Battery Health Engine as an example, this innovation helps smartphone batteries to maintain more than 80% of their original capacity after as many as 1,600 full charge cycles using OPPO’s 80W SuperVOOC flash charge technology, significantly extending the average lifespan of smartphone batteries[1], and thus reducing electronic wastes. In recognition of this, OPPO was named one of the 10 Most Innovative Asia-Pacific Companies in 2023 by influential business media Fast Company.

    Apart from that, to encourage more users to join the low carbon journey, OPPO introduced the “GO Green” Always-On Display feature in the latest launched ColorOS 14 operating system with 600 million monthly active users worldwide. The animations and carbon footprint on the screen will change based on the number of steps users have taken each day, and they will see clearly and intuitively how walking instead of taking other forms of transport can lead to less carbon emissions.

    Inspiration Challenge empowering startups

    In addition to its green initiatives in product design, manufacturing and global operation, OPPO has also joined hands with ecosystem partners to support innovators devoted to green technologies.

    “OPPO Inspiration Challenge”, an innovation accelerator initiated by OPPO Research Institute in 2022, calls for virtuous innovation technologies from global tech professionals and entrepreneurs annually. This year, it launched a new category, “Inspiration for the Planet”, targeting green technologies to minimize the environmental impact of electronic product manufacturing or usage.

    Among these green technologies, Bluepha, a biotech startup, develops biodegradable natural organic polymer to replace plastic usage for packaging and more scenarios. Through working with OPPO, Bluepha explored different solutions for employing its unique bio-based Bluepha® PHA – a biodegradable natural organic polymer that can replace plastic – in smartphone packaging and accessories such as smartphone cases. Invited by OPPO, Bluepha exhibited its solution at COP28. Also, with joint-support from OPPO and its industry partners, Bluepha presented a panel discussion at COP28 hosted at Biosphere 3 Solutions Pavilion, sharing its innovation for climate action.

    Aligned with its mission “Technology for Mankind, and Kindness for the World”, OPPO will continue to drive sustainability practices across its operations and manufacturing, work with more industry partners, and explore green technology to deliver more environmentally friendly technologies and products to its global users.

     

  • OPPO ColorOSHack 2023 Finals to Accelerate Development of Pantanal Ecosystem

    OPPO announces its OPPO ColorOSHack 2023 finals which took place on December 11th in Kuala Lumpur. There were 10 teams from all over the world competing for the Top 3 positions, with a total of 35,000 USD in prizes up for grabs. The outstanding teams also had the chance to consult with OPPO tech teams and industry leaders to receive support on the commercialization and promotion of their innovative creations.

    This year’s contest focuses on three key areas: entertainment, transportation, and daily life and has attracted over 200 teams from 50+ countries and regions to join since the launch in July. The final 10 teams bring projects covering a variety of scenarios, including navigation, payment, learning, health and others, showing the testament to Pantanal’s diverse range of applications and the space for innovation as it represents.

    Starting from this year’s contest, OPPO has made Pantanal ecosystem’s capabilities and the developer suite available to the public. This includes the adaptation of Aqua Dynamics, firstly introduced in ColorOS 14. Moreover, OPPO has provided more open capabilities to developers such as support for 4 device categories (phones, tablets, headphones, and automobile head units), support for 11 industry verticals, comprehensive widget coverage, and consistent visuals across different scenarios, helping developers quickly adapt their creations to different devices and interaction methods.

    OPPO maintains that the success of the Pantanal ecosystem depends on its global community of developers. OPPO ColorOSHack hopes to become the major event for fans of tech innovation, with tech experts coming together to share ideas and discuss cutting-edge technologies, providing a fresh dose of vigor for the OPPO’s Pantanal ecosystem.

  • OPPO Collaborates with Epic Games to Offer Fortnite for Android Through OPPO App Market

    Global smart device brand OPPO today announced the launch of Fortnite on the OPPO App Market as part of a partnership with the game’s developer, Epic Games. Starting from October 10, OPPO users in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and India will be able to quickly and conveniently access Fortnite through the OPPO App Market.

    With the arrival of Fortnite on the OPPO App Market, OPPO is bringing one of the world’s most popular video games to its large Android user base. As part of the collaboration, OPPO has also drawn on the powerful hardware and technology of its smartphones to bring steady 90 FPS Fortnite gameplay to selected OPPO devices. With enhanced picture quality and responsive gameplay, 90 FPS visuals elevate Fortnite on mobile to bring users the ultimate premium and smooth gaming experience.

    The 90 FPS Fortnite experience is now available on the OPPO Find N3, OPPO’s latest book-style foldable flagship launched in October. Not only delivering advanced gaming performance, the remarkably lightweight device also features a triple camera system that marks a significant breakthrough for camera performance on a foldable, providing the ultimate all-round flagship experience.

  • OPPO’S CUTTING-EDGE INNOVATIONS SHINE AT THE 2023 GRAND FINAL DEMO EVENT.

    The 2023 OPPO Inspiration Challenge Global Final Demo Event, held in Singapore, marked the culmination of an intense competition. Following this event, OPPO proudly announced the five winning proposals. This challenge, spearheaded by the OPPO Research Institute and supported by industry leaders such as Qualcomm, GSMA 5G IN, Amazon Web Services, and LinkedIn, encompassed two categories: “Inspiration for People” and “Inspiration for the Planet”. These categories were designed to unearth powerful solutions aligning with OPPO’s dedication to “Virtuous Innovation”. After a series of regional challenges and an intensive acceleration camp, 687 proposals were submitted by teams representing 66 countries and regions worldwide. From this extensive array, five exceptional proposals were selected. These victorious teams will now embark on an enriched collaborative journey with OPPO and its partners to transform their visionary concepts into reality.

    During the Global Final Demo Event, OPPO collaborated with six startup teams from both this and last year to showcase their cutting-edge products and prototypes. Among them, Bluepha Co., Ltd. has teamed up with OPPO to create environmentally friendly packaging for mobile phones, as well as art installations made from biodegradable materials that showcase both the lightness and flexibility of OPPO’s foldable smartphones and OPPO’s commitment to the environment. Woola, another sustainability-focused startup, demonstrated its packaging for the OPPO Watch made from recycled wool. One of the winners of last year’s Inspiration Challenge, TangTang Quan, returned to the stage this year to demonstrate the results of its collaboration with OPPO, promoting a blood glucose monitoring function for the OPPO Watch 4 Pro that enables diabetes patients to monitor their blood glucose levels in real time using a customized smart watch interface.

    This year, OPPO also teamed up with Deloitte China for the first time to launch an acceleration camp prior to the Global Final Demo Event. During the camp, experts from the OPPO Research Institute joined members of OPPO’s software, hardware, investment, universities and research, IoT departments, and industry experts from Deloitte to engage in discussions with the top 15 teams and provide advice on technology, industry trends, and the business prospects of their proposals.

    At the end of the event, five winning proposals were ultimately selected from among fifteen finalists by a panel of judges comprising members of the OPPO Research Institute, OPPO’s investment department, and experts from Temasek International, GSMA, Fidelity International, and XNode. The judges assessed the proposals against the four criteria of feasibility, innovation and originality, long-term potential, and social values, with winning teams each receiving a grant of USD $50,000 plus opportunities to further develop their ideas in collaboration with OPPO and its partners. Further to this, “3D interactive platform” and “Flint Paper Battery” were awarded the People’s Choice awards in the “Inspiration for People” and “Inspiration for the Planet” categories, and “Impulse (Non-Surgical Hearing Aid)” and “Flint Paper Battery” received the Media Choice awards.
