Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) has taken another major step in advancing Malaysia’s digital education landscape through a new partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Johor. The collaboration marks the establishment of a Huawei ICT Academy at UiTM Johor, aimed at cultivating high-caliber and interdisciplinary talent equipped with digital and intelligent skills essential for the country’s technological transformation.

The Huawei ICT Academy will harness Huawei’s global expertise and internationally recognised certification programmes across key areas such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud Computing. This initiative will act as a catalyst for strengthening UiTM Johor’s digital talent ecosystem, providing students with real-world exposure to cutting-edge technologies that are shaping industries worldwide.

The partnership was officially formalised through a Letter of Intent (LoI) signed during Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 event held in Segamat, Johor. The event brought together students, academics and industry leaders in a series of seminars and workshops exploring the latest advancements and career opportunities in AI, cloud and 5G. It also highlighted how intelligent platforms are revolutionising various sectors, including healthcare, food, mobility, energy and digital trust.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who officiated the event, emphasised that Malaysia’s success in building an intelligent future will depend on strong collaboration between government, industry and academia. She noted that innovation must serve all layers of society, stressing the importance of digital literacy, equitable access to technology and the protection of privacy and trust. According to her, Malaysia must continue fostering homegrown innovation and talent to ensure technological independence and data sovereignty.

Huawei’s Intelligent World 2035 vision paints a picture of a society where advanced connectivity, artificial intelligence and cloud computing become as fundamental and accessible as basic necessities. By 2035, breakthroughs in AI, next-generation networks like 5.5G and 6G, and intelligent platforms are expected to drive global transformation, reshaping industries and the way people live, work and connect.

UiTM Johor’s Exercising Rector, Associate Professor Dr Saunah Zainon, stated that the partnership demonstrates UiTM’s commitment to developing skilled professionals who understand advanced technologies and are ready to lead the country toward an intelligent future. She highlighted that AI is a key driver of transformation in the era of Intelligent World 2035, and universities must remain proactive in creating learning environments that expose students to emerging innovations. Dr Saunah added that through the combined strength of Huawei’s global expertise and UiTM’s community network, this collaboration will not only benefit students and faculty but also the wider Johor community.

Huawei Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Simon Sun, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to nurturing Malaysia’s digital talent pool. He shared that through the Huawei ICT Academy, thousands of students from 52 public and private higher education institutions in Malaysia have already been trained in the latest technologies. The academy serves as a bridge between academia and industry, helping to align educational outcomes with the needs of the modern job market. Its mission is to equip students and educators with the skills, knowledge and exposure required to excel in the global digital economy.

The Huawei ICT Academy offers professional training and internationally recognised certification in AI, Cloud Computing, Data Communication and 5G technologies. Malaysian students have consistently achieved outstanding results in the global Huawei ICT Competition, reflecting the nation’s growing presence in the international technology arena.
