KLCC Precinct Leads by Example in Sustainable September 2025, Fostering a Liveable and Lovable Community

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA) successfully concluded the third edition of Sustainable September under the theme “Liveable and Lovable Precinct,” marking the campaign’s most impactful year since its inception in 2022. The month-long initiative, organised in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Urbanice Malaysia, and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), brought together more than 1,000 participants from across the KLCC Precinct, partner properties, and the wider community. The event reinforced a strong collective commitment towards shaping Kuala Lumpur into a city that is not only sustainable but also vibrant, healthy, and inclusive.

This year’s campaign recorded remarkable achievements that reflected the growing momentum of the precinct’s sustainability movement. Through various fundraising activities, a total of RM41,000 was successfully raised surpassing the initial target and representing a significant increase from previous years. Precinct employees collectively contributed over 700 volunteering hours, benefitting approximately 2,200 individuals through social and environmental outreach programmes. The precinct’s blood donation drive collected 134 blood bags, while 50 new trees were planted at KLCC Park in collaboration with DBKL and FRIM. Environmental stewardship was further strengthened through the collection of 317 kilograms of waste during International Coastal Clean-Up Day and 200 litres of used cooking oil for recycling. In addition, the campaign encouraged physical wellbeing, with participants collectively accumulating over one million steps throughout the month’s activities.

The campaign was officially launched earlier this month by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, YBhg Datuk Dato’ Seri TPr. (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, alongside KLCC Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Sr. Mohd. Salem Kailany. The opening event featured a Fun Run, Tree Planting Ceremony, and Zumba in the Park, symbolising the initiative’s core philosophy that sustainability extends beyond environmental preservation to encompass the wellbeing of people and communities.

According to John Burke, Chairman of KLCCBEA, Sustainable September has grown into more than an annual event, it has evolved into a collective movement that embodies the values of the KLCC Precinct and the city at large. “By aligning with DBKL’s vision for a Liveable and Lovable City, and with the expertise of partners like Urbanice Malaysia and FRIM, we’re showing how sustainability can be lived, experienced, and shared,” he said.

Since its introduction in 2022, Sustainable September has evolved from a small-scale collaboration into a precinct-wide model recognised regionally for its innovative and action-driven approach. The campaign continues to unite partners across hospitality, retail, and urban sectors in pursuit of KLCCBEA’s vision of developing a world-class, future-ready, and sustainable precinct at the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
