Penang Reinforces Its Standing as a Premier Business Events Destination, Powered by High-Impact Industries and a Robust 2026 Outlook

Frankfurt, Germany — Penang continues to reinforce its standing as one of Malaysia’s leading business events destinations, supported by strong growth across high-value industries such as medical and healthcare, advanced manufacturing, electronics, digital innovation and association meetings. Backed by a mature ecosystem, strong connectivity and growing global recognition, the state is increasingly becoming a destination where business events deliver meaningful economic and industry outcomes.

In 2025, Penang recorded its strongest business events performance to date, hosting 3,391 events, a significant increase of 64.7% compared to 2,059 events in 2024. The state also welcomed 451,198 delegates, while total room nights climbed to 824,505, reflecting impressive year-on-year growth of 47.8% and 47.6% respectively. These activities collectively generated an estimated RM1.91 billion in Economic Event Impact (EEI), highlighting the substantial value business events contribute to the state’s economy.

Beyond the events themselves, this growth continues to benefit a wide network of stakeholders including hotels, SMEs, venue operators, transport providers, technical suppliers and service industries, reinforcing the sector’s wider economic influence.

Penang’s strong performance is supported by its ongoing development as a business events-ready destination. Improved accessibility, growing accommodation offerings and expanding industry capabilities have strengthened the state’s appeal for high-value meetings, conventions, incentive travel and exhibitions.

The business events landscape in Penang is also closely aligned with strategic sectors such as advanced manufacturing, medical sciences, technology and innovation. This alignment strengthens Penang’s role as a platform for knowledge-sharing, innovation exchange and business expansion.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) has introduced the “Penang Inspiring Meetings” campaign, aimed at further elevating Penang’s profile in conjunction with the national Visit Malaysia 2026 initiative. The campaign underscores Penang’s ambition to attract more business travellers, conference delegates and incentive groups while highlighting the unique strengths of both the island and mainland regions.

This year marks a significant milestone for PCEB as the bureau celebrates its 10th anniversary. Since its establishment in 2016, PCEB has played a vital role in positioning Penang as a preferred regional destination for business events.

As it enters its next chapter, PCEB remains committed to enhancing Penang’s international reputation, strengthening strategic partnerships and driving sustainable industry growth.

Part of this long-term vision includes BE Associate, a newly launched talent development programme designed to cultivate future-ready professionals for the business events industry. Through monthly seminars, practical learning opportunities, volunteer placements and direct industry exposure, the programme aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations while building a sustainable talent pipeline.

Penang’s 2026 business events calendar will be anchored by two major industry platforms designed to strengthen regional and international engagement.

The Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) 2026, taking place from 27 to 29 October 2026, will continue its role as Malaysia’s only homegrown business events and travel trade platform. Designed as a dynamic marketplace, PITE connects international and regional buyers with Malaysian sellers through structured business-to-business (B2B) engagements, fostering collaboration, networking and deal-making opportunities.

For 2026, the platform will expand into a more internationally focused showcase, welcoming exhibitors beyond Malaysia while encouraging greater participation from convention bureaus, Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs) and Professional Exhibition Organisers (PEOs) worldwide.

Complementing this is BE @ Penang 2026, themed “BE The Multiverse,” which will be held from 10 to 11 December 2026 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre. Now entering its 10th edition, the conference is recognised as Malaysia’s premier business events conference and serves as a leading platform for industry dialogue, innovation and strategic exchange.

The 2026 edition explores a new reality for the business events sector — one shaped by intersecting industries, emerging technologies, multinational corporations and sustainability-driven innovation. More than just a conference, BE @ Penang offers a collaborative environment for forward-thinking discussions and cross-sector partnerships that shape the future of the industry.

Driven by strong sectoral foundations, strategic campaigns and future-focused initiatives, Penang enters 2026 with clear momentum and a strengthened vision for growth.

Through continued efforts led by PCEB, Penang remains committed to positioning itself as a destination where business events not only stimulate economic growth but also strengthen industry capabilities, foster innovation and create long-term impact for both Penang and Malaysia.
