    In a vibrant celebration of Malaysia’s rich batik heritage, the annual Batik Fun Walk returns for its eighteenth consecutive year. This exhilarating event is organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia (PENYAYANG), and supported by its esteemed partners, Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC), with the backing of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).   • CULTURAL HERITAGE GLORY: SARAWAK EMERGES AS CHAMPION.

    Sarawak’s winning streak continues this year as it secures yet another significant international business event. Known as the “Olympic Games” of the global cultural calendar, Sarawak has been chosen to host the 22nd ICOMOS Triennial General Assembly 2026 (ICOMOS GA2026), with Kuching being the designated host city.

    ICOMOS Malaysia, the Malaysian national committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites, will host ICOMOS GA2026 between October 17 and 24, 2026, with at least 2,000 cultural heritage experts and professionals from over 130 countries participating in meetings and scientific symposiums, social events and workshops, and technical visits to significant cultural and natural heritage sites in Kuching, Sarawak, and other parts of Malaysia.

    With turbulent changes taking place in the world today, from conflicts and war to natural disasters and climate change, ICOMOS GA2026 will design its scientific symposium around the theme  ‘Living Heritage: Respect, Enhance, Accept, and Partnership’ to promote the positive role of heritage conservation in supporting and promoting peace, respect, inclusivity, and sustainability.

    “Sarawak is home to a wide variety of ethnicities, cultures, and traditions that give our destination a unique and powerful identity; therefore, preserving cultural heritage sites and buildings is essential for maintaining our connection to history, culture, and community. However, with rapid urbanization and modernization, it becomes challenging to balance development and cultural conservation”, said the Honourable Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts. “The Sarawak Government is very proud to collaborate with ICOMOS Malaysia and deliver positive social, cultural, and economic benefits through the event, in line with Sarawak’s Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 and Malaysia’s commitment towards the protection and management of cultural heritage.”

    Speaking in today’s press conference, ICOMOS Malaysia President Tiong Kian Boon stated that hosting the 22nd ICOMOS GA2026 in Kuching is a huge vote of confidence in ICOMOS Malaysia by the Sarawak Government and an enormous undertaking for the national committee.

    “It is the national committee’s dream for ICOMOS GA2026 to leave a lasting legacy of cultural interpretation and advocacy par excellence moving forward,” said Tiong Kian Boon. “We foresee delegates becoming advocates for the amazing experiences that Sarawak and Malaysia’s cultural heritage offer. Such a global event will have a high economic impact and wide-ranging benefits for future cultural tourism. We hope that ICOMOS GA2026 will highlight the importance of heritage as a tourism driver in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.”

    In terms of economic value, the event is expected to secure at least 16.3 million in total economic impact and a direct delegate expenditure of RM8.9 million, earning RM984,000 in taxes. Meanwhile, 1,301 job opportunities will be created for the local community.

    ICOMOS Malaysia Deputy President, Faisal Abdul Rahman, said “ICOMOS GA2026 aligns closely with the Malaysian government’s commitment towards the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in the protection and management of cultural heritage, particularly of the 4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country, with many more new nominations on the way. GA2026 is an opportunity to highlight to an international audience the significant achievements of Malaysia and Sarawak in cultural heritage management as well as the role of the cultural heritage sector in the nation’s economic growth.”

    “Since launching the state-level business events campaign, Tribe Legacy Sarawak, in 2020, we are initiating more collaborations that lead to greater benefits for the industry and beyond,” expressed Amelia Roziman, BESarawak’s CEO. “The campaign emphasizes how collaborations can add greater value to business events.   • ESPORTS FEVER GRIPS THE NATION AS MEL23 NATIONAL LEAGUE BEGINS.

    The Malaysia Esports League 2023 Nationals (MEL23) are slated to take place this coming weekend. MEL23 plays a pivotal role in the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ (KBS) efforts to forge a resilient and all-encompassing esports environment. This undertaking aligns seamlessly with the KBS Esports Strategic Development Plan, which seeks to lay the groundwork for the enduring success of the esports industry.

    The MEL23 State League has already ended recently, and then the National League follows this week according to the following schedule:

    PUBG Mobile Saturday, 14 October 2023
    eFootball Mobile Sunday, 15 October 2023
    MLBB Saturday & Sunday, 21 & 22 October

    Champions for each game title in 13 states and 3 federal territories will gather at the ESI Hub, Spacerubix, and Puchong to win the title of MEL23 National Level Champion.

    The Malaysia Esports League is a competitive competition platform for local grassroots talent under the management of KBS and Impact Integrated through Esports Integrated (ESI).

    MEL, which is entering its 3rd year of organizing this year, will feature three (3) game titles at the state and national level, namely Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), PUBG Mobile, and eFootball Mobile, while for the open series, three (3) game titles will be contested, namely eFootball Console, Valorant, and Counter-Strike 2. For all six (6) game titles that will be contested at MEL23, participants will win accumulated prize money amounting to RM 317,400.00.

    MEL23 is an inclusive esports competition platform for local grassroots talents that is organized by KBS in collaboration with Impact Integrated through Esports Integrated (ESI). The initiative of MEL23 is the result of a partnership between KBS, ESI, and 16 States and Federal Territories Esports Associations. Besides that, MEL23 this year is supported by Goodday Milk (the official beverage partner), Rakita 107.9, What’s The Meta (the media partner), Rakan Muda (the collaborative partner), and MPL Malaysia.

  • BUDAK FELDA JELAJAH DUNIA MELALUI KRIKET YANG CEMERLANG

    Kuala Lumpur, 9 Oktober 2023 – Pada tarikh yang dinanti, enam budak FELDA yang dikenali sebagai ‘6 Jahanam’ sedang bersedia untuk mencipta sejarah dalam arena kriket antarabangsa. Gemencheh Boys, sebuah filem inspirasi yang mengambil ilham daripada kisah sebenar keenam pemuda FELDA Bukit Rokan Utara dan mentor mereka, Cikgu Azman, akan segera menggegarkan pawagam seluruh negara mulai 26 Oktober ini.

    Diterbitkan oleh Astro Shaw, bersama dengan kerjasama GV Corporate Advisory dan SOL Pictures, filem ini jauh lebih daripada sekadar satu filem sukan biasa. Ia menghidangkan kisah yang penuh inspirasi dengan sentuhan humor, rasa bangga, dan keintiman yang mampu menyentuh hati, semua diiringi dengan tema semangat kesetiaan kawan dan tekad untuk mencapai kejayaan.

    Dengan tagline ‘tiada berundur, tiada menyerah’, Gemencheh Boys menceritakan kisah Shafiq dan kelima sahabatnya semasa zaman persekolahan. Perbuatan nakal mereka bukan sahaja menjadi tumpuan di sekolah, malah juga menjadi perbualan hangat di kalangan penduduk kampung tempatan.

    Demi menjadikan mereka manusia berguna, Cikgu Azman bertanggungjawab untuk membimbing dan mendorong mereka menyertai pasukan kriket sekolah. Meskipun cikgu Azman tidak mempunyai asas tentang sukan yang dianggap elit itu, dia bertekad membimbing ‘6 jahanam’ –  Shafiq, Rashid, Fauzi, Amin, Shukri dan Azad untuk bermain kriket, sekaligus mengubah kehidupan mereka.

    Filem ini diceritakan dari kaca mata atlet kebangsaan Shafiq Sharif yang mewakili Malaysia untuk Piala Dunia Kriket pada tahun 2019 serta berjaya merangkul pingat emas di Sukan SEA 2017. Gemencheh Boys membuktikan kita sebagai rakyat Malaysia, tidak kira apa jua latar belakang, apabila meletakkan kepercayaan dan kesungguhan, pasti mampu meraih kejayaan – ‘from zero to hero’.

    Menarik lagi, babak-babak yang dipaparkan amat dekat dengan masyarakat kita dan ia akan membawa penonton mengimbau kenangan manis zaman kanak-kanak pada era 1990an. Antaranya main cop tiang, mandi sungai, petik buah mangga selepas balik sekolah, berbasikal sekitar kawasan kampung dengan kawan-kawan, lawan labah-labah dan simpan dalam kotak mancis, denda ketuk ketampi, layang-layang dan banyak lagi.

    Gemencheh Boys adalah hasil arahan pemenang Cerita Asal Terbaik Festival Filem Malaysia 2017, Jason Chong bersama Eric Ong. Cerita asalnya diilhamkan oleh Jason dengan kerjasama Sky Khor untuk penulisan skrip.

    Gemencheh Boys menampilkan pelakon berpengalaman seperti Pekin Ibrahim, Farah Ahmad dan Dato’ Ahmad Tarmimi Siregar yang mempamerkan persembahan cukup meyakinkan. Pemenang Pelakon Lelaki Terbaik di Festival Filem ke-28, Pekin Ibrahim sekali lagi menonjolkan sisi berbezanya apabila membawa watak Cikgu Azman yang memerlukan dialog dalam dialek Negeri Sembilan. Selain itu, Gemencheh Boys menyandarkan wajah-wajah baru dalam arena lakonan sebagai tunggak utama Aqil Yaya, Syed Ahmad, Ayiet Harith, Kimi Norais, Izzue Deen dan Amir Kuziq. Turut membintangi adalah Zaidi Omar, Azman Hassan, Kamal, Rezuan, Ieda Moin, Arumugam A/L Vedan dan penampilan istimewa Farah Fauzana.

    Lagu rasmi filem ini adalah ‘Siapa Kami’ nyanyian penyanyi rap terkenal dari Negeri Sembilan, W.A.R.I.S bersama David Koon, Andrew Lui dan Ronald Mok.

    Pengarah, Penulis Skrip, Cerita Asal Gemencheh Boys, Jason Chong menyatakan filem ini adalah tentang transformasi dan harapan. “Gemencheh Boys adalah sebuah kisah sebenar yang memaparkan tentang bagaimana seseorang mengubah kehidupan orang lain dengan memberi harapan dan keyakinan.
