    The Learning Curve, Part 4: A New AI Model and an Evolving Language

    As Samsung continues to lead the way in providing top-notch mobile AI experiences, we take a look at Samsung Research centers across the globe to understand how Galaxy AI is empowering users to reach their full potential. With support for 16 languages, Galaxy AI allows more individuals to enhance their language skills, even without an internet connection, thanks to on-device translation in features like Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist, and Browsing Assist. But what exactly goes into developing AI language capabilities? In our previous visit to Vietnam, we explored the process of preparing data for training AI models. This time, we delve into how teams have made Galaxy AI a distinctive offering for both the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

    The rapid growth in AI tools that use large language models (LLM) has been seen worldwide, and China is no exception. With Baidu’s ERNIE Bot and Meitu’s MiracleVision emerging as popular choices in China, Samsung R&D Institute China partnered with both companies to help build Galaxy AI features for the country.

    Samsung R&D Institute China in Guangzhou (SRC-G) and Beijing (SRC-B) focused on providing Mandarin speakers in China with a seamless Galaxy AI experience, even though the underlying technology may differ significantly. The team utilized the specialized resources of Chinese dialects from external partners and developed a distinctive Galaxy AI solution for China.

    “We have the advantage of blending global best practices with China’s local practices, as well as creating new features and constantly improving them through daily communication with Chinese consumers,” says Hairong Zhang, Software Innovation Group Leader at SRC-G. “With rich development experience from the Galaxy S24, I’m proud of how our team cooperated with local Chinese AI companies such as Baidu and Meitu to provide a solution that resonates in China.”

    At the beginning, the teams had to acclimate to each other’s working styles and iron out the initial kinks of information asymmetry. Daijun Zhang, Head of SRC-B, established a task force to ensure the project followed the development schedule and moved quickly toward its goals.

    Thanks to the Beijing team’s experience in generating large-scale models and successful collaboration with third-party partners, all the generative AI features were successfully launched in China. The result is a solution that has local relevance and market-specific features such as Touch to Search.

    Expanding on Chinese to Develop for the Cantonese Dialect

    Mandarin Chinese for mainland China was introduced to Galaxy AI when the Galaxy S24 was released in January 2024. However, the task for Samsung R&D Institute China was still incomplete. The team was given the responsibility of creating the AI model for Chinese in Hong Kong (Cantonese), a dialect that builds upon the previous work done for Mandarin but introduces a whole new set of language features to tackle.

    In developing for Cantonese, the China R&D team faced major cultural challenges that it needed to respond to in order to fully support localization for the market. The first cultural phenomenon is the two sets of systems for writing and speech. Hong Kong locals use grammar and expressions similar to Mandarin when writing but adopt a completely different colloquial grammar when communicating daily. Also, Cantonese has nine tones for pronunciation, whereas Mandarin has four.

    Another cultural phenomenon is that the Cantonese dialect itself develops with the times. Add to that the fact that people often blend Cantonese and English into conversations, and it’s clear to see why it was complicated to create test cases and validate language packs.

    “Cantonese is a very unique dialect that varies in different Cantonese-speaking regions,” says Jing Li, who leads the operation for testing the Cantonese AI solution. “Some of the slang, phrases, vocabulary and even the tones are varied from place to place. Therefore, we conducted a large amount of work in verifying the Hong Kong-specific data, as well as proofreading tens of thousands of relevant test cases.”

    With these complexities in mind, SRC-G and SRC-B worked together to support a deep code mix using a mixture of Cantonese and English for speech recognition, simultaneously supporting both written and spoken expressions in machine translation and reflecting current pronunciations in speech synthesis.

    Cultural Impact of Communication

    When Galaxy AI launched the Chinese (Hong Kong) language option, the customer feedback showed that the hard work of the Samsung R&D team was justified.

    For both the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, Samsung’s Galaxy AI activities show the importance of a global brand having a local presence and expertise, as well as the power of open collaboration with other organizations. In Hong Kong, Cantonese is a key part of the cultural identity of those who live there. That’s why it was so important for the team to get the AI language model right.

    “Language and communication are crucial in every region and in all walks of life,” says Henry Wat, Heads of Engineering Group at Samsung Electronics Hong Kong. “No matter the language, any tool that helps people communicate is invaluable. I believe our work is meaningful.”

    “Team eMAS Makes History as Malaysia’s First Senior Esports Team, Recognized by Malaysian Book of Records”

    Goodday Charge proudly announces the successful formation of Team eMAS, Malaysia’s first senior esports team, through the Boomers2Gamers competition. This is a significant step towards legitimising Esports in Malaysia. The team was officially inaugurated by YB Hannah Yeoh, Malaysia’s Minister for Youth and Sports, emphasising the importance of this groundbreaking initiative.

    The inauguration ceremony took place at Orange Esports Club, Quill City Mall. The Minister for Youth & Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan, officiated the team’s status as Malaysia’s first Senior Esports Team. Etika’s Chief Executive Officer Group of Companies (Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei), Santharuban Thurai Sundaram, Amy Gan, VP of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd, along with members of the media and guests, were also present at the event. Supported by the top Esports organisation in Malaysia, the Malaysian Esports Federation, the team received additional recognition from the Malaysian Book of Records, solidifying their position in the country’s history.

    The creation of Team eMAS is a major step forward for Goodday Charge’s goal of establishing esports as a legitimate activity. It serves as a platform to foster a greater understanding of esports among the older generation, bridging the gap between generations and promoting bonding with the younger generation. Additionally, it emphasises the various benefits that can be gained from esports, such as improved cognitive function and reflexes.

    Providing to individuals in the 50 and above age group, the Boomers2Gamers campaign saw a remarkable response with 298 applicants. The selection process was rigorous, resulting in the top 10 contestants who underwent an intensive training programme spanning several weeks. During this time, they honed their skills, developed strategic thinking, improved their fitness levels, and learned the importance of teamwork and effective communication. At Goodday Charge, prioritising nutrition and fitness in all sports is a top priority.

    To ensure the team is ready for training, they begin their day with physical exercises and a nutritious meal. Afterward, the coaches lead a crucial strategic discussion before diving into training matches. After the session, the coaches have a debriefing where they review their performance and receive advice on how to improve. Partners like Orange Esports Club, Predator Gaming, and Creative Labs made sure that the participants had an exceptional gaming experience. They provided a state-of-the-art gaming facility, top-notch Predator series gaming laptops, and high-definition gaming headsets.

    Following their impressive wins, the team handpicked six individuals to join their ranks. Trish Lim was appointed as the Team Leader, Nahar Ludhfi took on the role of entry fragger, Ahmad Zamzuri, also known as Tom, joined as the second entry fragger, while Johan Arifin and John Yap were enlisted as support. Additionally, Linda Tee was designated as a substitute. Every member was carefully selected by former professional eSports athletes, Mohd Syazwan ‘Wanr0’ and Mohammed Reza ‘Rexa’, who have a combined experience of over 20 years. They chose the team based on specific criteria.

    In order to strengthen their position in Malaysian esports history, Team eMAS went head-to-head with the professional Counter-Strike team, HXG, in a series of 4 intense matches. This acknowledgment by the Malaysian Electronic Sports Federation and the Malaysia Book of Records solidifies their position as Malaysia’s inaugural Senior Esports Team.

    Goodday Charge is showing their dedication to esports by providing support to team HXG’s men’s and women’s teams. These teams are gearing up to represent Malaysia at the Asian Esports Championship in Chengdu, China. Their ultimate goal is to qualify for the 2024 International Esports Federation World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is the largest country-based event in the world.

    YB Hannah Yeoh Tseow Suan, Minister of Youth & Sports, emphasised the importance of such initiatives. “Esports is often perceived as the domain of the young, focused solely on entertainment. However, through initiatives like Boomers2Gamers, we demonstrate that esports encompasses much more. It is about strategic thinking, mental agility, and community – qualities that resonate with traditional sports.”

    She added, “I commend Goodday Charge for spearheading the formation of this team and aligning with initiatives by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This programme Boomers2Gamers, initiated by Goodday Charge, makes esports more inclusive by creating a better understanding and greater acceptance which will help bridge the generation gap. Inclusivity is among the key thrusts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”

    Amy Gan, VP of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Goodday Charge is dedicated to championing the belief that esports is a sport, requiring discipline, skill, and fitness for optimal performance. From supporting the National eSport Development Guideline (NESDEG) with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to sponsoring the 2024 Malaysian Esports Awards, our aim is to change negative stereotypes and misconceptions of esports in Malaysia.     Team eMAS’s Team Leader, Trish, expressed her excitement about leading the team. “I am grateful to Goodday Charge for this amazing experience. When I joined, I had no experience with Esports, and would not support it as a pathway for my family members. I had only heard about Esports from my son, but only after I joined the campaign did I realise how big Esports was. Now, I can’t believe we’re a part of this movement – and that I’m the team captain!” 

    Team eMAS shared their feelings at the ceremony. “This has been an eye-opening experience. Though some of us played casually before, this was our first foray into Esports, and it was initially overwhelming. With support from Goodday Charge and our coaches, we overcame the odds and couldn’t be happier. Trish has been an inspiration, always looking out for the team both in-game and during downtimes. She truly deserved the role of team captain.”

    In December of last year, the Chinese government released a report that identified additive manufacturing (AM) and powder metallurgy as part of the nation’s “strategic emerging industries.”1This recognition highlights the significance of these technologies in the country’s strategic plan for long-term industrial growth and sets them up for additional research and investment opportunities.     KAO Malaysia Teams Up with Selangor Government and Takeda Malaysia to Launch Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum for Mosquito-Borne Disease Prevention on World Dengue Day

    KAO Malaysia has just announced the release of its latest product, the Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum. This innovative serum is designed with a special anti-landing technology that effectively deters mosquitoes from landing on the skin and feeding. The announcement was made alongside the global expansion of its GUARD OUR FUTURE project, aimed at safeguarding future lives from mosquitoes.

    Our focus at GUARD OUR FUTURE is on cutting-edge product technology and formulation that offers a protective shield, effectively repelling mosquitoes and safeguarding people from mosquito bites. The Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum made its debut in Thailand two years ago and has recently been launched in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. As a part of the GUARD OUR FUTURE initiative, KAO Malaysia is teaming up with the Selangor State Government and Takeda Malaysia to carry out a range of activities focused on safeguarding the well-being of Malaysians from mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit, such as dengue fever.

    “In light of the ever-changing global landscape and the emergence of new challenges, it is crucial that we actively pursue our ESG strategy, the Kirei Lifestyle Plan, to achieve a sustainable society while also improving our business and mitigating risks,” stated Masahide Nishida, President of the Skin Care Business at KAO Corporation, during the collaborative partnership between KAO Malaysia, the Selangor State Government, and Takeda Malaysia.

    In 2023, we made significant progress in our efforts to achieve our Mid-term Plan 2027 (K27) and bring our vision of ‘Protecting future lives – Sustainability as the only path’ to life. Notable advancements have been made, such as the introduction of the new Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum and the implementation of the GUARD OUR FUTURE initiative. This initiative brings together our innovative technology and important collaborations to protect lives in the future. The expansion of GUARD OUR FUTURE into Malaysia is especially significant, especially with the upcoming observance of World Dengue Day on June 15th.

    KAO Finds a Harmonious Blend of Business and Addressing Social Challenges

    Mosquitoes are responsible for the most fatalities worldwide. According to recent data from the German online platform Statista, approximately one million people lose their lives each year due to infectious diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. Even though the majority of these individuals are located in Africa, mosquito-borne infectious diseases continue to be a significant social concern in Southeast Asia. Children, in particular, are highly susceptible to dengue fever.

    The GUARD OUR FUTURE project aligns with KAO’s comprehensive environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) strategy, known as the Kirei Lifestyle Plan (KLP). This plan sets forth ambitious goals for the future and provides a clear roadmap for KAO’s ESG initiatives, with a strong emphasis on meeting the needs of consumers. The KLP operates by strategically integrating ESG into KAO’s business, in line with the K27 objectives of addressing significant social challenges while pursuing business expansion and taking the lead in achieving a sustainable world.

    Dengue fever has posed a significant societal concern in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia for an extended period of time. Furthermore, the expansion of mosquitoes’ habitats and the rise in cases of dengue fever have been attributed to factors such as global warming and urbanisation, according to Mr. Nishimaki Akira, President of KAO Malaysia. “In line with KAO’s dedication to its strategy, we strive to combine all efforts and build on the commitment of protecting our future by controlling and eliminating the dengue threat in our communities.”

    In line with KAO’s commitment to solving social issues according to its vision to protect future lives, its Bioré brand offers a lineup of products that protects skin from a variety of environmental stress factors; based on the idea that the skin is the “human interface” that connects people to other people and to society and that is a part of everyday life. The new Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum is a mosquito repellent based on a repellent technology that makes the skin surface repulsive to mosquitoes causing them to fly away before biting it – the goal is not to kill mosquitoes, but to reduce the infection caused by mosquitoes by protecting the skin. This product is representative of KAO’s commitment to solving social issues according to its vision to protect future lives.

    GUARD OUR FUTURE in Malaysia

    In Malaysia, dengue cases have increased significantly, with 123,133 cases reported in 2023 —marking an 86.3% rise compared to the previous year. Dengue-related deaths also increased by 78.6%, with the highest concentration of cases in Selangor. In the first quarter of 2024, there were 41,565 reported cases and 28 deaths attributed to dengue fever complications, showing a rise compared to the same period in 2023.

    To kick off GUARD OUR FUTURE in Malaysia, KAO Malaysia has pledged to match a donation of the newly launched Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum units with the number of active dengue fever cases in the state of Selangor in 2023. This will add up to over 61,080 units of the product worth RM15.90 per 50g unit, amounting to RM971,172 in total. The donated units will be distributed till June 2025 at all activities in conjunction with GUARD OUR FUTURE, including programs and campaigns related to dengue that will be implemented by the Selangor State Government together with related agencies and departments. This implementation will be carried out in stages starting in July 2024.

    “The Selangor State Government through the Selangor State Public Health Committee will implement the Dengue Prevention Program in Selangor with KAO (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd by providing education and exposure to the public about the dangers of dengue fever. We will also be sharing preventive measures that need to be carried out following the increase in dengue fever cases in the State of Selangor,” said YB Puan Jamaliah Binti Jamaluddin, Public Health and Environment EXCO, Selangor State Government. 

    “As part of this programme, we will organise educational workshops and gotong-royong activities around Selangor together with KAO Malaysia along with the distribution of Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum to all participants. The Selangor State Government welcomes cooperation with the private sector in public health programmes as a strategic step to increase the literacy level of the local community towards more effective and efficient public health care. This public-private partnership is also in line with the Selangor State Government’s commitment in ensuring the health of the people of Selangor,” added YB Puan Jamaliah. 

    From today until December 2024, GUARD OUR FUTURE will engage with the community through various means including:

    • MoA signing with the Selangor State Government and MoU signing with Takeda Malaysia  
    • Awareness talks about the dangers of dengue fever and ways to prevent and reduce transmission, in addition to community engagement in 50 selected schools 
    • Three community clean-up sessions in selected dengue hotspots in Selangor state 

    About Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum’s Product Technology 

    The new Bioré GUARD Mos Block Serum is a mosquito repellent based on a repellent technology that makes the skin surface repulsive to mosquitoes. Focusing on the actions of mosquitoes when they land on the skin, KAO has developed a non-greasy mosquito repellent with a light texture similar to body lotion that can expand widely and provide coverage on skin, as if having protection skin shield to protect from mosquitoes. 

    The product protects against mosquitoes without being sticky and is as comfortable to apply as serum.     USAHAWAN PERUBATAN RESHMA PRAKASH BERJAYA BAWA NAMA NEGARA DENGAN KEMENANGAN DUA GELARAN UTAMA DI MRS INDIA WORLDWIDE 2024

    Kita jarang melihat wakil Malaysia pulang dengan gelaran utama selepas bertanding dalam pertandingan ratu antarabangsa yang berprestij. Namun, Dr. Reshma Prakash, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif sebuah klinik perubatan pembedahan di Johor, mengharumkan nama negara dengan memenangi bukan satu tetapi dua gelaran utama di Dubai, Emiriah Arab Bersatu baru-baru ini.

    Pada pertandingan akhir Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2024 yang telah diadakan di Hotel Ajman yang berprestij di Dubai pada 6hb Mei 2024, Reshma yang merupakan seorang ahli psikologi berusia 33 tahun dan ibu kepada tiga orang anak dari Segamat, Johor telah dinobatkan sebagai Mrs India Worldwide Water 2024 dan juga Mrs India Worldwide South Asia 2024 serta telah memenangi gelaran subsidiari Mrs Elegant.

    Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide ialah salah satu pertandingan ratu cantik terkemuka dari India yang menyediakan pentas antarabangsa untuk wanita di seluruh dunia untuk mengambil bahagian dan memperagakan kecantikan mereka tanpa mengira usia mereka. Mrs India Worldswide telah mengendalikan acara itu selama lebih sedekad dan meraikan wanita diaspora India dari seluruh dunia. Pertandingan itu mempamerkan bakat, keanggunan, dan pemerkasaan wanita yang beretnik India.

    Pertandingan itu menerima lebih 20,000 pencalonan tahun ini, dan selepas proses pemilihan antarabangsa yang melelahkan itu, hanya 104 calon dipilih untuk bertanding di peringkat akhir dunia di Dubai tahun ini. Reshma adalah satu-satunya perwakilan dari Malaysia yang layak mewakili negara kita selepas mengharungi proses pemilihan global yang sukar dan mencabar.

    Pemenang-pemenang dari pertandingan itu telah dipilih oleh panel juri yang dihormati, yang dipengerusikan oleh Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Mrs India Worldwide Bharat K Bhramar. IJuri-jurinya termasuk pereka rambut selebriti Sylvie Rodgers, pelakon Bollywood Tisca Chopra, pemenang Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2021 Amisha Sethi, pemenang Zon Antarabangsa Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2022 Reshma Vipin Nambiar, pemenang Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2023 Aparajita Sinha, pemenang Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2023 Fire Rakhi Saha, pemenang Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide Earth 2023 Manjari Priya Gupta, jurugambar fesyen terkenal Rony Kaula, dan pemenang Haut Monde Mrs India Worldwide 2022 Ruchika Malhotra. Persembahan itu berlangsung di bawah koreografi mahir dan arahan Alison A Woodham yang berbakat, dilengkapi dengan kepakaran penggayaan fesyen  Anjali Sahani.

    Perlawanan akhir pertandingan ratu cantik itu diserikan dengan kehadiran personaliti terhormat dari industri hiburan dan profesional yang cemerlang.

    Reshma dilahirkan di Segamat, Johor. Bapanya seorang jurutera tentera udara dan ibunya seorang suri rumahtangga. Pada awalnya Reshma dibesarkan di Jitra, Kedah kerana bapanya berpangkalan di sana. Reshma berpindah ke Segamat, Johor selepas ayahnya meninggal dunia dalam kemalangan ketika dia baru berusia 9 bulan. Ibunya yang balu mula bekerja di kilang plastik pada usia 28 tahun untuk menjaga Reshma dan adiknya Prathisha. Bagi memperbaiki keadaan mereka, ibu Reshma memelajari kejururawatan dan menjadi jururawat di pusat hemodialisis tempatan di Segamat.

    “Ibu saya Prema Narayanan memang luar biasa dan akan sentiasa menjadi teladan saya. Dia adalah ibu saya, dan sekali gus ayah saya,” luah Reshma semasa sesi temu bual media sejurus selepas pulang dari Dubai.

    “Dia berusaha menpersekolahkan kami walaupun mempunyai wang yang sangat sedikit. Kami tidak dapat menghadiri kelas tuisyen pun. Di sebalik semua cabaran, kakak saya lulus dalam perakaunan kewangan manakala saya lulus dalam bidang psikologi. Kami berdua adalah pelajar cemerlang. Kakak saya kini bersama AIA sebagai seorang pengurus dan saya menyertai Hospital Sultanah Aminah di Johor Bahru ketika berusia 23 tahun,” tambahnya.

    Reshma bertemu suaminya Dr Raymond Rony, seorang doktor perubatan di hospital itu dan mendaftarkan perkahwinan mereka pada 2015. Dia mendapat anak lelaki pertamanya melalui pembedahan C pada 2017. Dia mendapat anak kembarnya, seorang lelaki dan seorang perempuan pada tahun berikutnya melalui kelahiran normal tetapi ia adalah kelahiran yang sukar. Dia kehilangan banyak darah semasa itu dan dikejarkan ke ICU. Tetapi Reshma bertekad untuk terus hidup demi anak-anaknya dan berjaya mengatasi kecemasan itu.

    Pada masa itu Reshma telah pun memulakan sebuah klinik bersama suaminya. Kerana dia sangat berdedikasi kepada pekerjaannya, dia kembali bekerja seminggu selepas bersalin untuk merawat pesakitnya. Ia amat penting baginya dan merupakan satu pencapaian yang hebat baginya kerana dia boleh membantu wanita lain mengatasi masalah mereka. Dia didorong oleh keadaan pesakitnya, kebanyakannya adalah wanita yang bercerai atau belum berkahwin.

    Reshma sentiasa meminati pentas dan berada di hadapan kamera sejak zaman persekolahannya lagi. Dia  pernah jadi model komersial sambil bekerja sambilan sebagai pelayan di McDonald’s atau KFC ketika berusia 19 tahun. Dia boleh memperoleh antara RM 150 hingga RM 200 untuk setiap sesi penggambaran.

    Perjalanan Reshma dalam pertandingan itu bermula apabila suaminya mendaftarkannya tahun lalu. Beliau adalah salah seorang daripada dua perwakilan yang dipilih dari Malaysia untuk menyertai pusingan pra-pemilihan pada bulan Mac 2023.Pra-pemilihan telah dijalankan melalui banyak mesyuarat Zoom. Dia diberi 13 tugasan untuk diselesaikan yang perlu dibentangkan melalui Instagram. Tugasan ini menyumbang 60% daripada jumlah markah keseluruhan.

    Memandangkan beberapa tugasan ini agak menyukarkan dan sangat khusus, Reshma memutuskan untuk melibatkan Reuben James & Sam Joshua daripada Benjomind Creative Agency untuk membantunya, kerana Reshma tidak aktif dan tidak mahir di media sosial pada masa itu.

    Beberapa tugas yang diberikan kepadanya, termasuk meraikan perayaan Holi, kerana pertandingan itu memfokuskan kepada budaya dan warisan India. Dia juga perlu belajar yoga dan tarian tradisional. Dia juga melibatkan Stephen, seorang jurugambar dan jurugambar profesional dari SN Film di Klang untuk membantunya dalam persiapannya. Walaupun separa buta, Stephen yang berdedikasi itu, memandu dari Klang ke Johor Baru untuk membantunya dengan aktiviti melengkapkan kandungannya.

    Walaupun dia berasal dari suku kaum Malayalee dan hanya bercakap dalam bahasa ibundanya, bahasaTamil, bahasa Inggeris dan bahasa Melayu, dia terpaksa belajar sedikit Hindi, untuk membantunya memahami dan berkomunikasi dengan lebih baik dalam pertandingan itu.


    Disebabkan masanya yang terhad sebagai orang dewasa yang bekerja dengan jadual yang padat, dia terpaksa menyelesaikan tugasan seminggu dalam masa 3 hari. Dia juga terpaksa belajar menari bhangra dalam masa kurang dari 2 jam.

    Semua tugasnya perlu diselesaikan dengan sempurna, malah, lebih daripada sempurna, jika tidak, dia merasakan dia tidak layak. Untuk ini, Reshma sangat menghargai pasukannya yang berdedikasinya dan semua pihak yang membantunya di peringkat persediaan dan mengucapkan ribuan terima kasih kepada mereka.

    Persiapannya telah mengambil masa lebih dari enam bulan. Dia mengadakan pertemuan dengan penganjur setiap hari Sabtu dari 10.00 malam hingga 2.00 pagi di mana dia dilatih dan dibimbing dalam semua aspek pertandingan seperti diet, komunikasi, advokasi dan lain-lain lagi. Semua aktivitinya harus disesuaikan dengan program pertandingannya kerana dia tidak boleh ketinggalan di dalam apa-apa aspek pun.

    Segala usahanya berbaloi apabila dia diumumkan sebagai salah seorang finalis dan satu-satunya rakyat Malaysia yang berjaya melangkah ke peringkat akhir dunia.

    “Suami saya adalah tulang belakang saya sepanjang proses ini,” kata Reshma.

    Dia terbang ke Dubai pada 27hb April 2024, tiga hari sebelum permulaan minggu pertandingannya untuk membiasakan diri dengan persekitaran, meluangkan sedikit masa bersama keluarganya dan memulakan langkah awal pertandingan. Dia ditemani oleh suaminya, tiga anaknya dan ibunya. Mereka adalah pembimbing soraknya sepanjang pertandingan.

    Pada 30hb April 2024, Reshma mendaftar masuk ke Hilton Dubai Al Seef, hotel rasmi minggu pertandingan. Rakan sebiliknya ialah Dr Niraja Patel, seorang doktor pergigian dari Amerika Syarikat.

    Aktiviti pertandingan bermula serta-merta pada hari berikutnya di atas kapal persiaran di mana pusingan pengenalan diri diadakan. Ini diikuti dengan latihan catwalk dan koreografi, yang difasilitasikan oleh Allison Woodham, pengasas The Model Book of India. Acara ini berlangsung sepanjang hari, meninggalkan mereka semua kurang daripada 4 jam untuk tidur.

    Hari kedua pertandingan itu menyaksikan dia bangun seawal jam 3.00 pagi untuk bersolek dan mengikat kain sari sendiri, untuk sesi bergambar profesional bersama Rony Kaula, seorang jurugambar terkenal Bollywood. Ini iikuti dengan latihan catwalk dalam saree merah jambu yang sama, selama 4 hingga 5 jam lagi. Pada jam 6.00 petang, para delegasi bergambar sekali lagi dengan berpakaian serba hitam. Mereka terpaksa balik, mandi dalam masa 5 minit, selesaikan solekan dalam masa 15 minit sahaja dan kembali dengan pantas ke tempat acara, hampir satu kilometer jauhnya dari hotel penginapan mereka.

    Hari ketiga pertandingan menyaksikan dia menuju ke satu lagi sesi penggambaran dan aktiviti pertandingan dengan pakaian peranginan berwarna oren. Kesemua perwakilan terpaksa memakai pelbagai jenis barang kemas dan aksesori semasa sesi penggambaran.

    Aktiviti pertandinganya tidak terputus-putus. Hari keempat menyaksikan dia menuju ke hotel lain untuk sesi bergambar pakaian renang pada pukul 6.00 pagi. Tugas itu lebih rumit kerana dia terpaksa mencari jalan ke tempat penggambaran secara sendiri sebagai sebahagian daripada pertandingan itu. Penggambaran itu tidak terhad dan perwakilan boleh memakai penutup yang sesuai semasa penggambaran kerana ia adalah pertandingan untuk puan.

    Reshma yang aktif, cergas dengan perawakan yang sempurna, selesa dengan penggambaran itu. Dia mempunyai badan yang tegap dan langsing kerana dia seorang peninju terlatih, pemegang tali pinggang hitam dalam karate, ahli gimnastik, penari salsa dan atlet MSSM yang kompetitif dalam acara lari berpagar 200m.

    Hari terakhir pertandingan telah diadakan di Hotel Ajman. Semua perwakilan hanya disediakan buah-buahan dan jus untuk sarapan pagi. Pakaian pertandingan akhirnya ialah gaun malam berwarna biru muda yang disumbangkan oleh pereka fesyen rasmi pertandiingan iaitu Anjali Shani. Dia juga terpaksa memakai kasut tumit 3 hingga 4 inci dan mendapat bantuan daripada jurusolek.

    Semasa pertandingan berlangsung, perwakilan telah dipotong daripada 104 kepada 60. Semasa pemotongan ini Reshma menerima gelaran subsidiari Mrs Elegant.

    Dia kemudiannya dinobatkan sebagai Mrs South Asia dan berjaya masuk ke dalam Top 22 walaupun merupakan satu-satunya calon dari Malaysia. Malah Singapura mempunyai 5 perwakilan manakala Hong Kong mempunyai 2.

    Apabila ditanya apakah kualiti yang perlu ada pada wanita dalam pusingan soal jawab, dia menjawab semua wanita harus mempunyai kualiti kepimpinan. Jawapannya mendapat tepukan gemuruh daripada penonton.

    Walaupun kurang sihat dan telah muntah di belakang pentas semasa pusingan akhir pertandingan yang mencabar itu, dia diumumkan sebagai salah satu daripada lima penyudah teratas. Dia berjaya menahan diri dan bercakap tentang unsur air, menekankan bahawa 70% daripada bumi adalah diliputi oleh air. Kebetulan juga dia telah menyampaikan cenderahati berunsur air kepada semua perwakilan. Malah video pertandingannya adalah berdasarkan unsur air.

    Tidak mengejutkan, Reshma telah dipilih dan dinobatkan sebagai Mrs India Worldwide Water 2024, menyebabkan keluarganya menyorak dalam keterujaan dan kegembiraan atas pencapaiannya yang menakjubkan di pentas dunia.

    Gelaran utama Mrs India Worldwide Earth 2024 dimenangi oleh Mousumi Sinha Dutta, dari Amsterdam.

    “Saya sangat bangga dan gembira kerana bekerja keras dan memenangi dua gelaran berprestij ini dan satu gelaran subsidiari untuk negara saya. Mewakili Malaysia di pentas antarabangsa adalah penghormatan besar,” kongsi Reshma yang teruja.”

    “Cabaran terbesar saya sepanjang pertandingan ialah mempelajari cara melibatkan diri di media sosial, mempelajari bahasa Hindi untuk memahami dan berkomunikasi dengan lebih baik dengan penganjur dan perwakilan lain, menguruskan masa saya dan mengatasi kekurangan tidur,” tambahnya.

    “Saya telah membuat 100 kenalan dari 42 negara semasa di sana, semua wanita berbakat, yang banyak mengajar saya sepanjang pertandingan itu. Mereka datang dari semua lapisan masyarakat, agama, pelbagai etnik India, gaya hidup, umur dan profesion. Malah seorang nenek kepada dua cucu bertanding bersama. Saya benar-benar menundukkan kepala saya kepada mereka,” tambah lagi Reshma.

    “Saya menikmati lawatan saya ke Dubai. Ia adalah bandar yang sangat indah dan selamat, terutamanya untuk wanita. Tiada siapa yang akan mengganggu anda di mana-mana sahaja anda melancong di bandar itu. Orang mereka peramah. Semua perwakilan juga mesra tidak kira dari mana mereka datang. Kami seronok menikmati Dubai chai dan berkongsi teh. Saya juga melihat mini Kerala di Dubai dengan ramai suku kaum Malayalee menjalankan perniagaan mereka. Ia benar-benar pengalaman yang menakjubkan melawat bandar ini dan untuk berada di dalam pertandingan yang mencabar tetapi bermakna ini,” sambung Reshma.

    “Apabila saya berada di sana, saya sentiasa bercakap tentang perpaduan Malaysia dan menggalakkan rakan-rakan perwakilan untuk melawat Malaysia,” kata Reshma dengan bangganya.

    “Saya sentiasa bercakap dengan orang secara sopan ketika berada di Dubai. Ia sentiasa memukau mereka, lebih-lebih lagi apabila saya memberi mereka salam kebangsaan kita. Saya juga meminta CEO pertandingan itu untuk melakukan perkara yang sama. Semua orang mengagumi cara rakyat Malaysia menunjukkan rasa hormat antara satu sama lain,” tutup Reshma dengan gembira.

    Reshma benar-benar rasa diperkasa daripada keseluruhan pengalamannya di Dubai. Dia berhasrat untuk memberi tumpuan kepada keluarganya terlebih dahulu. Dengan dua gelaran utama dalam tangannya, Reshma juga ingin untuk membuka rumah amal untuk gadis yang kurang bernasib baik. Beliau juga berhasrat untuk membantu wanita yang menghadapi kemurungan dan mereka yang berhasrat membunuh diri. Dia ingin membawa mereka ke kehidupan yang lebih baik dan lebih positif.
