Year: 2023

  • International Enthusiasm Shines at Eco Expo Asia 2023

With participants hailing from 112 countries and regions, Eco Expo Asia 2023 truly transcended borders. The AsiaWorld-Expo venue welcomed over 12,000 visitors and provided a stage for more than 300 exhibitors from 13 different countries and regions to showcase the latest climate crisis-fighting technologies.

The 2023 edition of Eco Expo Asia returned to AsiaWorld-Expo under the theme “Taking the Leap towards Carbon Neutrality”, with products on display from a variety of sectors in the environmental protection industry. This year’s exhibition featured new participating groups from Mainland China and Europe as well as the returning exhibitors from Canada, Hong Kong and Japan. The Eco Asia Conference once again brought together industry leaders, policy makers and academics from around the world to discuss the latest environmental challenges and the potential solutions. The last day (29 October) was open to public, in order to create more awareness of climate-related issues, and what the government and private sectors are doing to combat them.

The attendees, both exhibitors and visitors from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas, found great satisfaction in this year’s exhibition. The Eco Expo Asia platform not only played a crucial role in the industry’s growth in Hong Kong but also fostered collaboration between businesses across Asia and the world. Mr Isaac Ma, Co-Founder, wePlastic summed up what Eco Expo Asia means for green industries in the region: “This fair plays a critical role in promoting local enterprises in the environmental protection sector, and gives us both local and international exposure for our products and research.”

Over the course of the four days, buyers from various regions and industries came to disover the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the market. Mr Isaac Ma continued: “We are a start-up recycling company, specialising in recycling plastic waste and transforming them into granules, used as raw materials to produce garments, eyeglass frames and other accessories. The response has been quite positive, with an impressive visitor flow. A lot of people came to our booth to make inquiries, and we expect that this will result in many business opportunities. We have come into contact from visitors from all over the world, including visitors from Hong Kong and Mainland China, as well as overseas locations including India and the United Kingdom.”

Mr Jouni Jääskeläinen, Director, EPSE, whose company participated for the first time along with a group of other companies from Finland at Eco Expo Asia echoed similar sentiments: “In the first four hours of the fair we have already met more potential partners than we initially targeted for the entire exhibition, so the results of our participation have been beyond my expectations. Our company offers a new and unique wastewater treatment solution, and there is a lot of opportunity here for us to meet engineering companies from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Southeast Asia to help deal with their wastewater problems. We have recently registered a branch of our company in Hong Kong, where we plan to set up a technology centre, so we are 100% sure that we will participate at the fair next year.”

This year’s exhibition saw buyer delegations from a number of Southeast Asian countries alongside visitors from across the world, affirming the show’s position as an international meeting ground for the environmental protection industry, particularly in Asia. Mr Damrong Dejsakulrit, Managing Director, Energy Innovation Co Ltd visited the show from Thailand, commenting on the wide variety of products showcased this year: “I’ve come to this fair aiming to explore new energy-saving products that could be introduced to the Thai market. I’m quite impressed with the products on display, and we will discuss with our distributors in Thailand and determine the number of orders we will place, looking in the range of more than USD 100,000 for the first year. I think the fair has a strong lineup of exhibitors, and it allows our company to grasp what’s happening in the industry. It’s very likely that I’ll come back again next year.”

Travelling to AsiaWorld-Expo from Singapore, Mr Tze Siong Lee, Director, Innovative Energy Systems & Technology Pte Ltd shared his thoughts: “Our company provides energy solutions, and part of our business is monitoring energy usage for the Singaporean government and utility companies. I was looking for energy storage solutions and met several local and international exhibitors so far on the first day of the fair, from Canada and Hong Kong. I’m very impressed by Eco Expo Asia as the fair is well organised with many leading companies attending.”

In addition to the exhibition, Eco Expo Asia 2023 hosted a series of fringe events, comprised of several forums and seminars as well as the Eco Asia Conference. Guest speakers included representatives of industry leading companies, distinguished academics and government officials from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas. Sessions covered a diverse range of topics, from sustainable manufacturing to green finance and ESG, the circular economy, climate change, the hydrogen economy and more.

Speaking at the Sustainable Manufacturing Seminar on the second day, Ms Karen Ho, Head of Corporate and Community Sustainability, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Hong Kong shared the latest developments in regulatory policy for the manufacturing industry, commenting: “The audience was very attentive, and came prepared with some insightful questions on how to effectively motivate companies to address their carbon emissions. Eco Expo Asia is the ideal place for answering these questions and its seminar programme has been an effective way to share this information with those who might be unfamiliar with the topic.”

Mr John Lo, Founder, Asia Carbon Institute Limited was a speaker at the Eco Asia Conference session titled “Evolving ESG Landscape and the Future of Sustainable Finance”. After delivering his speech he made the following remarks: “My talk discussed the role of the voluntary carbon market in Asia. Audience members displayed great interest and were very engaged with the topic. The development of the voluntary carbon market in Hong Kong has just begun, and requires more government support, training, and funding. The conference successfully brought together industry experts from different countries and regions, and the insights gained from the exchanges can be shared with government departments, industry associations, and private companies to collectively promote green development.”

This year’s fringe programme was well received by audiences. At the same seminar on ESG, audience member Mr Wong Wai Kong, Founder and CEO, Filix Medtech Limited expressed his thoughts: “My company specialises in ‘product traceability’, which is to some extent related to ESG, and I hope to get the most up-to-date relevant market information. I have been impressed by the quality of the speakers as well as the topics being covered. The seminar today focused on how testing and certification advances ESG initiatives, which I believe is an emerging trend that is worth deeper discussion. It has offered me a better understanding on the latest progress in this area, so I’ll definitely come back again next year.”

Mr Christopher Man, R&D Engineer, Mechanical, AEL (International Holdings) Limited attended the Sustainable Manufacturing Seminar where he shared similar observations: “I’m an engineer looking to learn more about smart manufacturing done in a sustainable way. All speakers at the Sustainable Manufacturing seminar were on point, with clearly articulated points on the policy implications of carbon neutrality in the manufacturing sector. I’m also here visiting exhibitor’s booths and attending other seminars to get more knowledge of the industry and so far, I can say I have learned a great deal.”

Eco Expo Asia 2024 will take place in late October in AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. The show is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). • Sony Unveils Its Newest High-End Smartphone, The Xperia 5 V

Sony has introduced the Xperia 5 V, a high-end smartphone featuring the latest “Exmor T for mobile” camera sensor. This sensor ensures the capture of human expressions with exceptional skin texture clarity, making it ideal for point-and-shoot photography. The device offers a wide range of shooting capabilities, including AI-powered advanced bokeh rendering for portrait photography and a variety of color presets to set the desired mood and atmosphere. Additionally, the new “Video Creator” app simplifies video production by allowing users to select photos, videos, and music, with the app handling the rest to create professional-looking short videos in just one minute. Moreover, the Xperia 5 V boasts enhanced battery performance, with over 50% of the battery remaining even after a full day of active usage, making it a reliable choice for shooting, editing, and content viewing throughout the day.

Includes the latest camera sensor technology to capture people impressively at any time of the day or night

Capture memories in high definition regardless of time or place

The Xperia 5 V camera uses the latest sensor “Exmor T for mobile”, which also sits at the heart of the flagship smartphone “Xperia 1 V”, so you can shoot clear and high-definition images regardless of the situation whether it be day/night or indoors/outdoors. In addition to being able to reproduce the detail and natural texture of human skin, it is possible to select from a choice of colour presets called “Creative Look”, allowing you to match different colours and tones according to the scene you are shooting without any post-editing. In addition, bokeh mode[i] is greatly improved from the previous model[ii], it leverages AI technology to elevate your portrait pictures closer to the standards of interchangeable lens cameras.

The dual camera lens on the back allows you to enjoy shooting with three focal lengths of 16mm, 24mm, and 48mm. 48mm is equivalent to 2x optical focal length, so you can capture the subjects of your images in a larger size without worrying about image quality deterioration.

New Video Creator app that can easily edit and create videos in 1 minute

    Become a video master

The new “Video Creator” app has an automatic editing function that allows you to easily create video clips. Once you’ve decided the length of the clip, just select the photos or videos together with the music, and Video Creator will do the hard work so a final file is ready in about a minute. Even people who have no video editing experience can easily create original clips worthy of sharing on social media. You can also manually set your own preferences, such as clip adjustments and filter processing based on the creative look you are after.

Xperia 5 V also has a dedicated voice recording mic. Even when shooting a video in a busy scene where there are other voices and environmental sounds in the surroundings, the voice of the person you are recording is prioritised and can be clearly picked up.

Entertainment that lasts longer than a day1

Xperia 5 V allows you to enjoy powerful sound and stunning video without any need for an external speaker or display. In addition to a newly developed speaker amplifier with powerful deep bass, it has a bright OLED display which provides high visibility. You can immerse yourself in the world of content when enjoying live, streamed or recorded videos on social media or your favourite shows with beautiful images thanks to Sony’s TV “BRAVIA®” high image quality engine “X1™ for mobile”.

To enable being immersed in trending videos or shows without the worry of running out of charge, the 5,000mAh large capacity battery lasts longer than other smartphones with the same capacity battery. With its unique power-saving technology, power consumption is reduced by approximately 20% compared to the previous model3. As a result, even if you use your smartphone actively all day, the battery will remain at 50% or more1. In addition to supporting wireless charging and quick charging (up to 50% in 30 minutes[iii]), Xperia’s unique charging optimisation technology prevents battery deterioration, so even after 3 years, the maximum capacity is maintained at 80% or more[iv]. In addition, the size of heat diffusion sheet has increased by 40% compared to the previous model3 as an extremely effective heat dissipation measure and the power consumption of the CPU has been improved.

Compact size with a long battery that retains more than 50% after using actively all day long

    Enhanced gaming functions

Game enhancer, an assist function that makes gaming more enjoyable, has a new theme colour but retains a host of winning support functions such as the L-γ (low gamma) laser, audio equalizer, voice chat mic and screen recording function which is useful when capturing and distributing content onto YouTube™. In addition, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® 8 Gen2 Mobile Platform and Elite Gaming[v] support stable gameplay.

    Design/Function/Accessibility/Sustainability

Another element to love about Xperia 5 V is its combination of highly reliable performance and design. The camera and back panel are colour matched with an aesthetically pleasing matte finish that creates an impression of unity. It is available in Black.

When taking pictures in Photography Pro, a new accessibility feature enables a sound to be played[vi] that lets you know whether the screen is horizontal, so people with visual impairments can capture a straight picture. Functionality and design are combined to fit in the palm of your hand.

The packaging of Xperia 5 V uses Sony’s Original Blended Material, which is made from bamboo, sugar cane fibers and post-consumer recycled paper, and has achieved an individual package that completely eliminates plastic[vii]. In addition, some elements, both internal and external, of the main unit use SORPLAS™, a flame-retardant recycled plastic developed by Sony that uses up to 99% recycled materials.

Style Cover with Stand for Xperia 5 V (XQZ-CBDE)

The Xperia 5 V’s dedicated cover (available as an optional accessory purchased separately) also works as a convenient stand that can be placed vertically as well as horizontally. The slim shape that perfectly fits the smartphone makes it easy to hold and use not only for watching videos, but also for live streaming and video chat. Available in Black colour to match Xperia 5 V[viii]. Furthermore, we have also used SORPLAS as part of the materials within the Style Cover with Stand[ix].

    Availability

The Xperia 5 V will be available in Malaysia from Q4 2023.

“magiK” dibarisi pelakon terkenal tanah air seperti Beto Kusyairy, Nadia Aqilah, Nam Ron, Ruminah Sidek, Roy Azman, Kamarul Eqifshah dan bintang cilik, Qisya Hairulzain.

Filem ini berkisar kepada kanak-kanak pekak berusia tujuh tahun, Kit di perkampungan yang terkenal dengan tarikan kelip-kelip dan menemui penonton di seluruh pawagam tanah air pada 30 November 2023.

  • OPPO Zero-Power Tag is Named to TIME’s List of Best Inventions of 2023 for Envisioning a More Sustainable Future

OPPO’s Zero-Power Tag was announced to have landed on TIME’s list of Best Inventions for 2023 in the Experimental category, putting OPPO among the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Sony with a highly prestigious international accolade for invention.

Every year, TIME recognizes products, software, and services that are solving compelling problems in creative ways. The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible. In the Experimental category, TIME’s recognition of the OPPO Zero-Power Tag adds to OPPO’s international reputation for technical expertise and novel thinking, and highlights a new approach to a sustainable world where IoT devices won’t generate polluting batteries.

“We are honored to be included in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2023 list for the OPPO Zero-Power Tag in recognition of our achievements in innovation and sustainability,” said Elvis Zhou, OPPO Overseas CMO. “As the shift to B5G/6G accelerates, there’s a pressing challenge to expand IoT connectivity without exacerbating our world’s e-waste problem. Born from OPPO’s vision to blend convenience and environmental responsibility, OPPO Zero-Power Tag is an eco-friendly IoT device that communicates with phones using ambient energy instead of a battery. With object tracking, environmental monitoring and other smart features, we are very excited about the possibilities it will unlock in the IoT space. Moving forward, OPPO will continue to make contributions to sustainability and develop innovative initiatives that positively impact the environment.”

At MWC 2023, OPPO unveiled the company’s first battery-free IoT prototype device — OPPO Zero-Power Tag — powered by Zero-power Communication technology. Leveraging key technologies such as RF power harvesting, backscattering, and low-power computing, the Tag is able to harvest energy directly from Bluetooth, WiFi, and cellphone signals, resulting in surprising advantages such as smaller size, better durability, greater signal distance, and lower cost.

OPPO is now in the process of refining the device’s design, technology, and industry standards while introducing more features, such as health monitoring, to expand the device’s application to more fields. The company believes that OPPO Zero-Power Tag could one day prevent millions of batteries from going to landfills while making life both smarter and easier for consumers and businesses alike.

Sustainability has long been a central component of OPPO’s business operation and product design. In February 2023, OPPO released the OPPO Climate Action Report with support from global consultancy Deloitte. In the report, OPPO pledges for the first time to achieve carbon neutrality across its global operations by 2050 and outlines five key areas in achieving this goal: low-carbon manufacturing, reducing the carbon footprint of products, investing in options that generate less carbon, utilizing digital technology to manage carbon emissions, and collaborating on industry standards to address climate change.

This year, OPPO Battery Health Engine received the 2023 SEAL Business Sustainability Award, and thanks to its innovations, OPPO was also named one of the 10 Most Innovative Asia-Pacific Companies in 2023 by influential business media Fast Company. In the 2023 OPPO Inspiration Challenge, OPPO added a new category, “Inspiration for the Planet,” to recognize innovations for sustainability and attract more than 280 proposals from worldwide startups, covering from biomimetic materials to sustainable and safe energy storage.

Aspiring for a greener future for all, OPPO will continue to prioritize sustainability in its operations to achieve its carbon neutrality goal and strive to deliver more environmentally friendly technologies and products through constant innovations.
