Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, has been honored with the Technology and Innovation Excellence Award at the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) Business Excellence Awards 2025, recognizing its outstanding contributions to smart healthcare. The award celebrates organizations that have embraced digital, innovative, or disruptive technologies over the past three years to enhance their operations and service delivery. This accolade highlights SMC’s continued commitment to pioneering technological advancements that improve clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient experience while supporting Malaysia’s broader transition towards digital healthcare.
According to Dr Seow Vei Ken, CEO of Sunway Medical Centre, the recognition reflects the hospital’s ongoing efforts to implement cutting-edge technologies, digitalize healthcare services, and provide a seamless, patient-centric experience. Over the years, SMC has introduced an array of innovative solutions, including robotics, precision medicine, automation, and AI integration. Key advancements include Malaysia’s first automated microbiology laboratory specimen processing system (WASP), cloud-based Hospital Information Systems and Electronic Medical Records (HIS/EMR) with Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), the Outpatient Pharmacy Automation System (OPAS), and Annalise AI for radiology imaging.
SMC has also deployed advanced robotic systems across various clinical services, such as the Mako SmartRobotics, ROSA® Knee System, VELYS™ Robotic Assisted Solution, Southeast Asia’s first commercial AiBLE™ Spine Surgical System, and Malaysia’s first da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System for minimally invasive procedures across multiple specialties. These innovations not only elevate surgical precision but also enhance patient safety and recovery outcomes.
The hospital’s achievements are further validated by its ranking in Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026, where SMC emerged as one of the world’s top 350 hospitals and the leading hospital in Malaysia. As of 2025, SMC houses over 300 medical consultants across 80 specialties, supported by 28 Centres of Excellence, and holds three major hospital-wide accreditations: Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval, Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International, and the Malaysian Society of Quality in Health (MSQH).
