John Burke Joins AIPC Board, Boosting Malaysia’s Global Business Events Leadership

Malaysia continues to cement its leadership in the international business events arena as John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, has been officially appointed to the 2025 Board of Directors of the International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC).

Burke’s appointment is not only a personal achievement but also a testament to Malaysia’s rising prominence in the global meetings and conventions sector. Representing a country with ambitious business events targets and a world-class venue at its heart, his new role places Malaysia in a stronger position to influence international best practices and industry standards.

“I am honoured to join the AIPC Board at such a pivotal time for the global events industry,” said Burke. “This platform allows us to spotlight the strengths of Kuala Lumpur and the Asia Pacific region, while learning from and contributing to a broader global dialogue on venue innovation and excellence.”

The AIPC, with members from over 55 countries, plays a central role in shaping the future of convention centres worldwide through education, research, and strategic collaboration. Burke will work alongside esteemed global leaders, including Julianne Jammers (President, SwissTech Convention Center) and Taubie Motlhabane (Vice President, Cape Town International Convention Centre), to steer the organisation’s policies and global initiatives.

His appointment also supports Malaysia’s national vision for business events. Backed by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), the industry is projected to attract 5.9 million delegates and generate RM42.12 billion in economic impact by 2030.

“Malaysia has a compelling story to tell,” Burke added. “Through this appointment, we aim to amplify our voice, forge stronger international partnerships, and help drive the country’s ambitious economic goals through business events.”

As one of Asia’s most advanced and sustainable convention venues, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre continues to play a central role in attracting high-impact international meetings and exhibitions, making it a strategic contributor to Malaysia’s global brand.
