A new wave of electric mobility has hit Malaysian roads with the official launch of the BYD ATTO 2, an all-new compact electric SUV tailored for first-time car buyers, young professionals, and anyone eager to embrace the exciting world of EVs. Introduced by BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, the ATTO 2 represents more than just a car it’s a lifestyle shift built on innovation, flexibility, and youthful spirit.
Unveiled in a vibrant showcase at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur, the launch event embodied the brand’s theme, “When Chill Meets Thrill” an experience that merges relaxed style and social fun with high-performance electric driving. BYD’s signature capybara mascot, Carpy, brought a playful touch to the celebration, personifying the laid-back energy and modern freedom that the ATTO 2 aims to deliver.
Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Motors, shared that the ATTO 2 is designed to resonate with the new generation of Malaysian drivers. “This car is not just about getting from point A to B it’s about how you enjoy the journey. We’re introducing flexible, accessible ownership options and collaborating with Power Up to provide mobile EV charging especially ideal for those living in high-rise buildings.”
Backed by BYD’s industry-leading electric technology and youthful design language, the ATTO 2 is poised to become a game-changer in the Malaysian EV market. Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, emphasized that the model was engineered specifically for first-time EV adopters. “It’s a car that blends practicality with a trendsetting edge all while pushing forward the spirit of innovation that defines BYD,” he said.
With a starting price of RM100,000, the BYD ATTO 2 delivers strong value wrapped in a bold, compact design. Featuring short overhangs, aerodynamic sculpting, and a confident stance, the vehicle blends strength with urban agility. Inside, the cabin feels modern and tech-savvy, outfitted with synthetic leather seats, a sleek black interior, and a roomy layout tailored for daily comfort.
At the center of the cockpit is a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen loaded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both supporting wireless and wired connections. The system ensures that drivers and passengers stay connected and entertained with seamless access to apps and media on the go.
Under the hood, the ATTO 2 is powered by a 130kW electric motor that delivers 290Nm of torque, rocketing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. With an NEDC-rated range of up to 410 km, the vehicle offers plenty of mileage for both weekday commutes and weekend getaways. All this performance is backed by BYD’s patented Blade Battery — a 51.13 kWh unit renowned for its safety, durability, and reliability. It supports both AC and DC fast charging, offering drivers the flexibility to stay charged wherever they go.
Ownership of the ATTO 2 comes with serious perks. For the first 800 customers, BYD Sime Motors is offering an Easy Ownership Package worth up to RM13,500. The package includes zero monthly payments for the first six months, free home charging solutions tailored to different types of residences, and exclusive benefits such as door-to-door mobile charging, EV rescue services, and even hand car washes. All new buyers will also receive a V2L adapter, Type 2 charging cable, and comprehensive warranties covering the vehicle (6 years/150,000 km), the battery (8 years/160,000 km), and the drive unit (8 years/150,000 km).
The ATTO 2 will be available in three fresh exterior colours — Ski White, Breeze Green, and Harbour Grey, each paired with a stylish all-black interior that reinforces the car’s modern, youthful appeal. With intuitive features, dynamic performance, and a commitment to making EV ownership more accessible, the ATTO 2 marks a strong new chapter for BYD in Malaysia.
The public is invited to experience the BYD ATTO 2 firsthand during its public showcase from 25 to 27 July 2025 at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur, running from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily. The lifestyle-themed launch event includes test drives, booking promotions, interactive booths, pickleball and roller skating zones, live art showcases, and a chance to meet Carpy. Visitors can also win exclusive concert tickets and merchandise while attending BYD’s EV education workshop.
