  • Leader Energy Forges Partnership with BMW Group Malaysia in New MOU

Leader Energy Holding Berhad through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Leader EV Solutions Sdn Bhd , has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU with BMW Malaysia Sdn Bhd. The essence of the MOU is to feature the BMW brand across Leader EV’s Galaxy Charge network along the North-South Highway in Malaysia, and collaboratively launch campaigns to encourage vehicle charging for BMW-affiliated brands at Leader EV’s Galaxy Charge network. Leader Energy, along with its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, is an independent power producer primarily engaged in the development, ownership, operations, and maintenance of power assets and projects.

Under the MOU, Leader EV will be responsible for the development, installation, operation and maintenance of the Galaxy Charge network. In addition, Leader EV is to actively promote and create awareness on electric vehicle charging technology while BMW is to fulfil the access of public charging solutions via a subscription or members programme through Leader EV’s Galaxy Charge network.

Leader Energy’s Executive Deputy Chairman, Dato’ Sean H’ng said, “We are excited to embark on this journey with BMW Group Malaysia to further enhance the use and charging of electric vehicles through Leader EV’s Galaxy Charge network in Malaysia. With the consistent growth trajectory of Malaysia’s Electric Vehicles (“EV”) market, we anticipate higher demand for EV charging stations in the near future. Through this collaboration, we believe that we will be well-positioned to capture a larger share of the market with our EV charging infrastructure. Our charging projects on the North-South Highway is a stepping stone platform in growing our network across Malaysia. With the collective efforts of both parties involved, we are very optimistic in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome from this collaboration.”

Head of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at BMW Group Malaysia, Sashi Ambi said, “As the leading provider of premium EVs in Malaysia, we are always looking out for strategic partnerships to drive the development of a thriving EV ecosystem forward. Our latest initiative with Leader Energy exemplifies both our shared commitments towards enhancing public access to charging infrastructure nationwide and alleviating range anxiety, especially on a long-distance journey. With this MOU, we look forward to expanding our charging network of over 1,000 facilities even further and providing our customers with a complete premium EV ownership experience.”

The number of charging infrastructures on the island has increased with the introduction of two new BMW I Charging stations at The Datai Langkawi by BMW Group Malaysia and Tian Siang Premium Auto.

Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications of BMW Group Malaysia said, “BMW Group Malaysia has always believed that sustainability is a shared responsibility. As we continue to realise our vision of carbon-neutral mobility in Malaysia through our premium fully electric BMW i vehicles and the expansion of our comprehensive BMW i Charging network, we are pleased to collaborate with likeminded partners, such as The Datai Langkawi – alongside our dealer, Tian Siang Premium Auto. This partnership underlines our commitment to providing a Premium Electric Ownership Experience to all electric vehicle (EV) owners across the country – an experience that exemplifies sustainable luxury and is in tandem with our national agenda for electrification in Malaysia.”

Tan Ka Kin, Managing Director of Tian Siang Premium Auto said, “With the new BMW i Charging facilities introduced today, we are thrilled to be powering a total of 12 premium charging facilities across the northern regions of Malaysia – bringing greater access to electromobility in major locations outside the Klang Valley. This gives us confidence that interest for EVs in these regions will continue to rise as we work to present Sheer Electric Driving Pleasure to our customers here.”

“Sustainability and conservation are at the core of our business strategy, and we integrate these values into all aspects of our company ethos, operations, and guest experiences at the resort. Offering this BMW i Charging station to our guests is just one of our many efforts in moving towards cleaner air and regenerative travel, to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the rich biodiversity of Langkawi for generations to come”, stated Arnaud Girodon, General Manager of The Datai Langkawi.

To further accelerate the adoption of electromobility on the island, guests of The Datai Langkawi are also invited to experience the BMW iX through a limited-time test drive opportunity. The two new BMW i charging facilities are also conveniently located at the entrance of the beach resort, accessible for guests.
