  • Reliability and Resilience: Ministry of Health and SDCL Focus on Energy for Critical Care Services

SDCL, the world’s leading specialist investor in energy efficiency, has partnered with Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, MGTC, and MyHijau companies during the groundbreaking Malaysia First Energy Efficiency Forum. This collaboration aims to initiate projects that bring about noteworthy reductions in carbon emissions and considerable cost savings.

Hospitals are one the largest and most consistent energy users with the crucial role they play. SDCL brings deep sector experience in demonstrating how energy efficiency can deliver cheaper, cleaner and more reliable infrastructure solutions to a key infrastructure sector. Malaysia hospitals need reliable and cost-effective energy services throughout the year, ranging from electricity and heat, to hot water and cooling. Hospitals also demand reliable and resilient energy solutions and backup systems. Energy demand reduction initiatives involving lighting and temperature control may also improve patient care.

Through the IGEM engagement, MoH, MGTC and SDCL are setting a pathway to accelerate identifying fit-for-purpose solutions in Malaysia that require no up-front capital outlay for the user and result in lower operating costs. Through focusing on energy efficiency, hospitals can deliver cleaner, more resilient energy solutions that reduce maintenance costs and increase productivity.

SDCL CEO Jonathan Maxwell states “Our investments in energy efficiency demonstrate that energy efficiency is not only one of the largest but the most cost-effective means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as it improves resilience and energy security while also reducing costs and improving productivity. It is infact a major source of green growth”.

  • Greening the Industry: NextGreen Global Initiates Sustainable Product Line from Palm Bunches

YB Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Deputy Minister of NRECC  officiating the launch ceremony.

Nextgreen Global Berhad (“NGGB”) seized the opportunity at IGEM 2023 to highlight its dedication to sustainable practices. By participating in this esteemed event, NGGB aimed to promote awareness and understanding of eco-friendly alternatives within the pulp and paper industry. Their presence garnered substantial interest and inquiries, indicating a promising future for environmentally conscious solutions in the market.

The ceremony showcased NGGB’s new environmentally friendly tissue paper and pulp moulded (food grade) products made from empty fruit bunches (“EFB”). The EFB pulp was produced using the breakthrough Preconditioning Refiner Chemical-Recycle Bleached Mechanized Pulp (PRC-RMBP) technology.

Earlier, NGGB’s associate company Nextgreen Crowning Package Pulp Molding Sdn. Bhd. had completed the construction of its clean room factory for the manufacturing of the pulp moulded (food grade) products in August 2023. The factory, which is located at NGGB’s Green Technology Park in Pekan, Pahang, commenced its trial production on 16 August 2023.

NGGB managing director Dato’ Lim Thiam Huat said, “We are delighted to launch our environmentally friendly tissue paper and food grade products today. The effective utilisation of EFB as the material for tissue paper and pulp moulded products aligns with NGGB’s direction to contribute substantially towards a greener global economy by accelerating the national sustainability agenda and the world’s transition to green and sustainable products. Notably, our EFB virgin pulp and paper is certified with SIRIM Eco-Labelling Scheme and MyHijau certification by MGTC. This evidences our pursuit towards creating a sustainable circular economy. We remain committed towards the transformation of oil palm biomass into various downstream products, in line with the aspirations of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof.”
