Huawei ICT Competition Global Final Closes in Shenzhen, Showcasing AI-Driven Education and Next-Gen ICT Talent

The Huawei ICT Competition 2024–2025 Global Final drew to a triumphant close today with a Closing & Awards Ceremony at Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarters. Now in its ninth year, the event has broken records by attracting over 210,000 students and instructors from more than 2,000 colleges and universities across 100 countries and regions. After rigorous national and regional rounds, 179 teams from 48 nations converged in Shenzhen to compete for top honours in Practice, Innovation, and Programming.

In the Innovation track, four teams shared the grand prize: Bulacan State University (Philippines), Beijing University of Technology (China), the Faculty of Technical Sciences Čačak at the University of Kragujevac (Serbia), and the Faculty of Sciences and Technics of Errachidia at Moulay Ismail University (Morocco). Universiti Sains Malaysia captured the first-place award in the same Innovation category, underscoring the strength of Malaysian ICT talent on the global stage.

The Practice Competition was divided into three specialties. In Network, grand prizes went to Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (China), Instituto Federal do Tocantins (Brazil), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), and a combined team from Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, University of Dar es Salaam, and University of Dodoma (Tanzania). For Cloud, the top awards were won by iACADEMY (Philippines), University of Batna 2 and the Higher National School of Computer Science Algiers (Algeria), Tianjin University of Technology and Education (China), and Singapore University of Social Sciences. In the Computing division, Guilin University of Electronic Technology (China), Federal University of Technology Minna (Nigeria), University of Bejaia and Higher National School of Computer Science SBA (Algeria), and Cebu Institute of Technology – University (Philippines) took home the grand prizes, while Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman earned third place.

The Programming Competition grand prize was awarded to Shenzhen Polytechnic University, recognising their exceptional coding prowess. Beyond technical awards, the competition honoured diversity and sustainability: all-female teams from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Kenya received the Women in Tech Award, a Ghanaian team was celebrated with the Green Development Award, and 18 instructors from 10 countries including China, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Hungary, and Türkiye were recognised with the Most Valuable Instructor Award.

In his opening address, Ritchie Peng, Director of ICT Strategy & Business Development at Huawei, emphasised how the competition’s evolving format spanning hands-on Practice, real-world Innovation, and algorithm-driven Programming reflects Huawei’s Intelligent World 2030 vision. “By mastering cloud computing, big data, and AI, participants are not just competing; they are equipping themselves to drive social progress and solve pressing challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education, and beyond,” Peng said.

Alongside the competition, Huawei hosted the AI Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, where global thought leaders discussed AI’s pivotal role in creating smarter, more inclusive learning environments. At the summit, Huawei unveiled the AI capabilities of its ICT Academy Intelligent Platform, a new suite of tools designed to streamline teaching and accelerate digital-learning adoption in classrooms worldwide.

As the global demand for AI, cybersecurity, and data-science experts continues to outpace supply, Huawei’s competition and accompanying initiatives in industry-academia collaboration and curriculum development seek to bridge the talent gap. By fostering a generation of skilled ICT professionals, Huawei aims to empower students to lead in an increasingly intelligent and connected world.
