Malaysia’s ambitions to position itself as a regional leader in medical innovation took centre stage today with the opening of the 4th Aesthetic Medicine & Surgery Conference (AMSC) Malaysia 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). The prestigious event was officiated by Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Member of Parliament for Kuching and Political Secretary to the Minister of Human Resource, who highlighted Malaysia’s growing influence and its role in driving cross-border collaboration in the field of aesthetic medicine.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Yii described the conference as a timely reflection of Malaysia’s international standing as a hub for professional medical exchange. He noted that AMSC 2025 not only celebrates medical innovation but also aligns with Malaysia’s broader vision as ASEAN Chair to strengthen regional integration through high-value sectors such as healthcare and medical science.
Co-organised by the Malaysian Society of Aesthetic Medicine (MSAM) and Deltus, the two-day conference has drawn more than 1,600 delegates from over 30 countries. The event reflects Malaysia’s rising stature as a key meeting point for global professionals in aesthetic medicine. Among the standout milestones this year was the Malaysian debut of PINOKIO Asia, an initiative by the Republic of Korea’s Plastic Innovative Nasal Oromaxillofacial Korean International Organisation. Bringing together some of the most respected plastic surgeons in Asia, the session set a new standard for international knowledge-sharing and surgical collaboration. Additionally, a significant delegation from the Society of Aesthetic Medicine, Singapore including a number of leading aesthetic doctors and dermatologists further strengthened the cooperative ties between Malaysia and Singapore in the advancement of ASEAN’s medical aesthetic landscape.
This year’s AMSC goes beyond traditional scientific discussion by offering highly specialised cadaveric workshops both before and after the main conference. Among them, the 3rd Edition Aesthetic Medicine Facial Anatomy Cadaver Dissection Masterclass provided rare hands-on anatomical training, while the Rhinoplasty & Surgical Facelift Hands-on Cadaver Masterclass offered practical surgical learning experiences few regional events can match. These sessions exemplify Malaysia’s ability to deliver world-class medical education and reinforce its growing appeal as a destination for advanced training in healthcare.

The conference also reflects the momentum of Malaysia’s booming medical tourism industry. In 2024 alone, the country welcomed approximately 1.6 million international patients, representing a 14% increase from the previous year and generating an estimated RM2.72 billion in revenue. To capitalise on this upward trajectory, Malaysia recently launched the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026 (MYMT 2026) campaign, with the goal of positioning the country as a leading healthcare destination in Asia. Led by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), the initiative aims to achieve RM12–15 billion in medical tourism revenue by 2030, supported by wider benefits to the hospitality, transport, and wellness sectors. Government efforts such as visa facilitation and the Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital Programme (FMTH) are also being implemented to provide seamless and high-quality experiences for international patients.
Backed by CPD accreditation and HRDC approval, AMSC 2025 ensures that Malaysian practitioners gain access to global expertise without having to travel abroad. This focus on education and upskilling strengthens Malaysia’s healthcare ecosystem and supports the development of a homegrown talent pool capable of contributing to both national and regional medical excellence.
Dr. Tingsong Lim, President of MSAM and Scientific Director of AMSC, emphasised that this conference is more than just another entry on the medical calendar. He described AMSC Malaysia 2025 as a reflection of the country’s readiness to lead in the aesthetic medicine space by creating platforms that connect international expertise with local potential. “By welcoming global experts to our shores, we’re enriching our own medical landscape and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of aesthetic medicine across ASEAN,” he said.
As Malaysia takes on the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, AMSC 2025 is a timely demonstration of the country’s ability to lead with purpose. Through its role as host, Malaysia is turning its growing influence into concrete action, establishing Kuala Lumpur as a regional centre for collaboration, innovation, and progress in the medical and aesthetic sectors.
