PIKOM

As Malaysia continues to cement its place as a global player in the technology and innovation sectors, PIKOM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia, remains at the forefront of supporting and promoting the nation’s digital transformation. With a remarkable track record in 2024, PIKOM is poised to expand Malaysia’s reach in the global tech arena, encouraging even more talent, startups, and corporations to showcase their innovations and leverage international platforms in 2025.

The year 2024 marked a significant leap for Malaysia’s tech industry, with local talent and businesses winning prestigious awards and gaining international recognition across major global competitions. At the WITSA Excellence Awards in Armenia, Malaysian organizations demonstrated their leadership in the digital space, with SIDEC’s SME Digitalisation programs and Telekom R&D’s Mobile Intelligent Network Diagnostic System (MINDS) earning top honors.

Another notable achievement came from the WITSA World Cup, where Malaysian companies PANDAI EDUCATION and ENTOMAL BIOTECH secured the top two spots in a global pitching competition, competing against 14 other international startups. This victory not only highlighted Malaysia’s thriving innovation ecosystem but also demonstrated the growing ability of Malaysian entrepreneurs to scale their ideas and access global markets.

At the ASOCIO Digital Summit in Tokyo, Malaysian companies and government agencies were once again celebrated for their excellence in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and public-private partnerships. The recognition of the Ministry of Digital, Heitech Padu Berhad, and MDEC, among others, showcased Malaysia’s strong commitment to leveraging technology for national growth and digital empowerment.

The APICTA Awards 2024 held in Brunei further underscored Malaysia’s diverse and dynamic tech landscape. Malaysian startups such as myQuickHR, CARSOME, and Meraque Services excelled in various categories, with myQuickHR winning the Artificial Intelligence category for its AI-powered HR solutions. These victories are a testament to the growing strength of Malaysia’s startup ecosystem and its capacity for producing innovative solutions across a range of industries.

PIKOM is particularly proud of the young talent emerging from Malaysian schools, with student-led projects like Read Right and SmartCycle BioFuel receiving international recognition. This success highlights the potential of Malaysia’s future tech leaders and reinforces the importance of nurturing innovation at an early stage.

As Malaysia’s tech sector continues to build on these successes, PIKOM is actively working to expand the global visibility of Malaysian businesses, innovators, and professionals. With a growing digital ecosystem, Malaysia is becoming a prominent hub for technology-driven solutions, and PIKOM aims to ensure that the nation remains competitive and attractive to global investors and partners.

“Malaysia’s achievements in 2024 demonstrate the immense potential of our local tech community,” said Alex Liew, Chairman of PIKOM. “But this is just the beginning. As we look to 2025, PIKOM will continue to be a driving force in connecting Malaysian innovators to global opportunities, fostering collaborations, and facilitating growth in new and emerging tech sectors.”

In 2025, PIKOM will focus on expanding Malaysia’s participation in international competitions, hosting more global tech events, and strengthening collaborations with international organizations. These platforms offer invaluable exposure to new markets, business partnerships, and investment opportunities that are essential for scaling Malaysian innovations worldwide.

A Call to Action for Malaysia’s Tech Community

PIKOM encourages Malaysian startups, SMEs, and individuals in the tech space to actively participate in global tech events and competitions in 2025. These platforms not only recognize excellence but also provide significant opportunities for growth and development in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. Whether through gaining access to venture capital, expanding market reach, or connecting with international mentors, participation in global competitions opens doors that can propel local innovators to new heights.

“2025 will be a year where Malaysian innovation and entrepreneurship will continue to shine on the global stage,” said Liew. “Together, we can elevate Malaysia’s position as a top-tier player in the technology and digital transformation space.”

The future for Malaysian technology and innovation looks incredibly promising. With continuous support from PIKOM and other industry stakeholders, Malaysian talents and companies have the opportunity to lead the way in shaping the digital future. From the public sector to high-growth startups, Malaysia is ready to take its place among the global tech leaders.

As Malaysia’s tech community continues to evolve and innovate, PIKOM will remain committed to empowering and enabling local businesses and individuals to participate in the international tech ecosystem. Together, we can harness Malaysia’s growing digital capabilities and drive global recognition for the nation’s achievements in the tech and innovation sectors.
