  • HDC Hosts Halal Sectoral Forum to Spur Further Development of the 5 USD trillion Halal Industry

    Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) successfully organised the Halal Sector Forum 2023, an event aimed at supporting the growth of Malaysia’s Halal business. The event, held in conjunction with the Global Halal Summit 2023 (GHaS 2023), drew over 500 attendees who took part in a broad selection of activities that included thought-provoking keynotes, informative panel discussions, and interactive networking.

    Under the theme “Resiliency of Halal Sectors Towards National Socio-Economy,” the two-day forum attracted representatives from various ministries, agencies, embassies, industry leaders, academia, research institutes, Halal industry practitioners, and Islamic financial institutions.

    The forum kicked off with a welcome speech by HDC Chairman, Mr. Khairul Azwan Harun, and a keynote speech by YAB Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development. Mr. Zainoirwan Zainuddin of Novugen Malaysia, Mr. Azli Munkiar of Hershey Malaysia, Mr. Simone Meregaglia of Euromonitor International, Mr. Abdul Razak Isa of Medika Natura, Mr. Mohd Safuan Mohd Zairi of MRANTI, and Madam Rashidah Ibrahim of Malaysian Vaccines and Pharmaceuticals (MVP) were among the prominent speakers. Mr. Khairul Azwan Harun, Chairman of HDC, will also deliver the special remarks on September 14, 2023. His speech will focus on HDC’s goal of implementing advanced technologies by establishing integrated domestic halal management systems. Furthermore, it seeks to promote innovative problem-solving strategies and to take a comprehensive, cross-national approach to policymaking. This approach prioritizes policy advocacy for halal compliance, as well as trade, investment, employment, and innovations that improve capabilities across various sectors

    The forum’s discussions covered crucial issues such as upholding global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles for business opportunities and investments, the interplay between innovation and commercialization, the development of raw materials for pharmaceuticals, the importance of co-branding, and fostering a positive and inclusive culture within organizations.

    The focus of this forum is aligned with Malaysia’s Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030), which was recently launched by the Malaysia’s YAB Deputy Prime Minister on 23rd March 2023. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) and HDC, HIMP 2030 catalyzes Halal industry’s growth by leveraging on Malaysia’s unique Halal ecosystem, with the theme “Prominent, Visible, and Globalized Halal Malaysia,” HIMP 2030 strengthens Malaysia’s leadership in the global Halal industry by achieving greater positioning, strategic standpoint, and comprehensive national development. Malaysia’s Halal industry is projected to reach approximately RM231.1 billion by 2030 which is 10.8 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), as targeted in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

  • LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA WILL HOST THE IRONMAN 70.3 ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP

    On Saturday, October 7, 2023, the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship will take place in Langkawi, Malaysia, drawing the top professional triathletes from the region. The epicenter of endurance sports in the Asia-Pacific area will be Langkawi, a magnificent tropical paradise noted for its immaculate beaches and verdant surroundings, as it welcomes the return of IRONMAN Malaysia and the IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship.

    The picturesque Langkawi Island, with its breathtaking vistas and challenging terrain, will provide the perfect backdrop for the event. After a hiatus of several years, Langkawi will once again welcome professional athletes, marking their return to Malaysian shores since 2019. The event has already garnered interest from athletes, with more than 1,200 triathletes already committed, representing a wide spectrum of global talent and enthusiasts eager to take on the challenge.

    Professional athletes will go head-to-head for a prize purse of USD $75,000, with some of the top triathletes from across the region taking on the 1.9km swim, 90km ride, and 21.1km run. The region’s leading professional triathletes are set to descend on Langkawi, Malaysia, for the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship on Saturday, October 7, 2023.     The event is set to begin at Pantai Kok, where triathletes are released via a rolling swim start to complete the 3.8km swim leg for IRONMAN Malaysia competitors or the 1.9km swim leg for IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi, with a short dash to the first transition near the Danna Langkawi luxury resort.

    The bike course heads out of Pantai Kok towards Jalan Teluk Yu, around the rolling hills of Datai, towards the southern part of the island and the fringes of Kuah town.

    The second transition is in a unique air-conditioned indoor venue, the newly renovated Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), which marks the start of the final leg of the race. The run course showcases the best Malaysia has to offer as athletes pass through the scenic route of the Langkawi International Airport, towards the finish line at the stunning Cenang beach.

    The Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa will serve as the final destination where the triathletes will cross the coveted Ironman finisher arch after a day-long, non-stop excursion.

    20 qualifying slots will be available for the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, for the male athletes, and 50 qualifying slots for Nice, France, for the female athletes.

    Langkawi Island, known for its vibrant culture and stunning landscapes, is set to offer participants and their families an unforgettable experience.   • PCEB HOSTS NIMO REPRESENTATIVES AT THE SETIA SPICE CONVENTION CENTER FOR NETWORKING WITH PENANG PARTNERS.

    The Network of Indian MICE Agents (NIMA) visited Penang on August 8, 2023, and was hosted by the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), concluding in a productive networking brunch at the SPICE Convention Centre. Leveraging India’s importance in Penang’s commercial, tourism, and events sectors, this event aims to strengthen business ties between Penang and India.

    The day commenced with an engaging opening ceremony, setting the stage for the activities that followed. Leading the NIMA team were Gajesh Girdhar, National Coordinator of NIMA, and Rakesh Arora, Convention Chairman of NIMA.

    NIMA agents enjoyed a networking session and brunch, featuring a delightful spread of Indian cuisine. Penang partners and NIMA agents seized the opportunity to exchange name cards, establishing valuable connections that promised mutual benefit.     The event ended on a cultural note, as NIMA agents embarked on a trishaw tour around George Town, immersing themselves in Penang’s rich cultural heritage. This delightful experience revealed the city’s captivating stories through its architecture, mesmerizing street art, and vibrant local life.

    The collaboration between NIMA and PCEB underlines a shared commitment to elevate Penang’s appeal to the Indian market. This networking brunch exemplifies the partnership’s dedication to maintaining Penang’s MICE ecosystem and fostering stronger ties between Penang and India.

  • Pada 18 November ini “Bob & Sentuhan Band” bakal mengadakan Konsert Ulang Tahun ke-12

    Buskers yang amat popular, Bob Sentuhan, yang telah menjadi sumber inspirasi bagi peminat seni tempatan dengan bakat dan kegigihannya, akan mengangkat martabat dunia busking dengan pengumuman sebuah persembahan istimewa. Konsert Ulang Tahun ke-12 Bob & Sentuhan Band akan menggegarkan pada 18 November ini.

    Konsert berdurasi tiga jam itu yang dijadual berlangsung di Panggung Asia, Gombak, menurutnya diadakan bagi meraikan keberadaan Bob & Sentuhan Band dalam seni muzik tanahair.

    Pada sidang media, hari ini, Bob atau nama sebenarnya, Mohd Aizad Rahman turut menyifatkan konsert berkenaan sebagai lambang kejerihan dan pengorbanan, terutama bagi seniman yang berkarya di jalanan yang berjuang tanpa lelah.

    “Konsert ini adalah bagi meraikan pemuzik Sentuhan yang bersama saya selama 12 tahun ini, terutama Shahrul Amri selain tanda terima kasih atas sokongan peminat yang memberi ruang kepada buskers, sekali gus membawa karya seniman jalanan pada tahap lebih tinggi.

    “Ia adalah sebuah persembahan istimewa yang bakal berlangsung selama tiga jam tanpa henti dengan pemilihan lagu, termasuk karya asal daripada album Sentuhan yang jarang didengar yang banyak berkisar tentang Malaysia, jiwa dan persembahan jalanan seperti Aku Cinta Kamu dan Bukit Bintang.

    “Biarpun masih mengekalkan konsep busking, muzik secara keseluruhannya cenderung kepada lagu-lagu hard rock dengan sistem bunyi, sesuai bagi sebuah konsert. Juga menarik, sesi open jamming nanti yang dibuka kepada mereka yang pernah bersama Sentuhan untuk tampil dengan persembahan spontan,” katanya.

    Dianjurkan oleh RYZ Event, konsert dengan tiket serendah RM68 itu turut menampilkan bakat Singapura, Ryzal Aziz, selain penyanyi cilik, Cinta Suci Indah Urmila Zaidi yang lebih dikenali sebagai Adik Cinta. Timeless Studio sebagai penaja bersama dan Mewah Event Management, rakan strategik.

    Busking di daerah tumpuan pelancong seperti di Bukit Bintang dan berdepan kompleks beli-belah Sogo, Kuala Lumpur, ibarat sekolah terbaik Bob dalam mengasah suara dan petikan gitarnya, berkomunikasi dan menyanyi pelbagai bahasa, sekali gus meraih peminat, termasuk antarabangsa.

    Justeru, kata anak kelahiran Pulau Pinang ini yang juga digelar Duta Kecil Pelancongan, satu segmen khas juga dirancang bagi memperdengarkan lagu-lagu pelbagai bahasa seperti hits Bollywood dan Arab yang merupakan sebahagian daripada identiti Bob & Sentuhan Band.

    “Sebelum busking, saya bermain muzik di kelab-kelab malam dan mengiringi ramai artis,” kata Bob yang mencipta nama walaupun tanpa pendidikan formal dalam muzik, hanya bersandarkan minat mendalam seawal usia 12 tahun. “Pada 2012, demi meneruskan hidup di Kuala Lumpur, saya memberanikan diri terjun ke dalam dunia busking.

    “Ia bukan perjalanan mudah, menuntut pengorbanan bukan kecil kerana busking dipandang rendah, tidak hebat. Saya cabar diri, gigih berusaha untuk mematahkan stigma buskers tidak boleh pergi jauh. Penerimaan masyarakat hari ini buat saya terharu dan Konsert Ulang Tahun ke-12 Bob & Sentuhan Band ini jelas cukup bermakna.”
